Need a tube preamp recommendation

Incomprehensible space llama
I have the itch (bug?) to use a tubed pre with my Nak PA-7 amp. So here's my "non-negotiable" requirements. Must have a phono stage, I currently just run MM. I would like a remote control, volume at least. Also, price IS an issue, $500 max. Used market is preferrable, because of the better value.

Any suggestions? Thanks!

I think you're asking a lot for the price.
Good luck finding those all in one combination.
I was unsuccessful. Then again, I didn't look to the far east.

Closest thing I can think of, is (if you can find one) a used Rogue Audio Metis.

They sold for $1100 new with remote. Quite decent phono stage.

It seems like people who have these don't sell them very often... but there's always the possibility one might show up somewhere...

Though, that still may not come under the $500 limit. I know that if I was selling one, I'd be reticent to take that little...

Regards,
Gordon.

Gordon said it very well. Metis would be my recommendation too, but good luck finding one for $500.

Not much to choose from at $500 even on the used market. This one has pretty good reviews on one of the vinyl forums.

YAQIN MS-12B MM RIAA valve tube pre-amplifier phono stage

If you can live without the remote you might keep an eye out for a Conrad Johnson PV?. I have a PV10 and enjoy it a lot.

Audible Illusions Modulus 2d - No remote though and you'll have to master the Art of Dual volume controls on the unit.

Tube Pre- CHECK
Phono Pre- CHECK
Remote - NO
$500 Price Point? - Possibly, but may require some hunting and dealing.

Its a killer preamp though and well worth the fiddling with the 2 volume knobs.

Hmm, I wondered if I was asking too much for too little. Hey, can I have it 24ct. gold plated as well?

:D

The Rogue just went up on my radar, thanks Gordon. Looks like it's a great value, and looks good too.

What if I dispense with the remote? Does that open up other good possibilities?
I'm open to DIY kit recommendations also, as long as they're legit, and not some goofy thing drop-shipped from Berzerkistan.
What price point would get me where I want to be, feature-wise?

Dispensing with the remote allows you to delve deep into the used market all the way back to units made in the 1950s. A whole new ballgame!!
