Neil Young's Harvest

I just bought a copy of Harvest. (vinyl) I've heard parts of the album but never realized how beautiful it is. His lyrics are poetic. One of his songs brought me to tears the first time I played it.

Yup, one of my most favourite albums of all time... :music:

One of my favorite albums from Young (I have them all).

I also am pretty fond of Harvest Moon...partly because it came out when I was in high school and just getting into Young and it was pretty popular. One of the rare new albums that both parents and teens could enjoy as well.

You might also enjoy "Comes a Time".

I see there's listings for a "remastered" issued last June ...

Is that just a new pressing of the remaster released in 2009, or a new mix?

There's also a Japanese SMH hi-def cd that I almost pushed the buy button for, but I just got a bunch of Tomita the other day and my inner self (being a cheapskate and all) won.

My outer cheapskate just about had a stroke when I saw the 5.1 mix DVD/A was going for around $150. Yeowch!

Neil Young.
Neil Young w/ Crazy Horse.
Collect it all, as even the lesser efforts are brilliant compared to just about anything else. Find "live" recordings when/wherever you can and grab those too.

A good way to get quickly into Neil's old work would be to pick up a copy of his triple album compilation "Decade". One of the best "best of"s you will find. :music:

Yes, he's quite great live, alone or with CH. Rust Never Sleeps, Weld, and Unplugged are my favorites.

That is a good one. Back when cd's still cost a lot (especially double cds) I got that for Christmas. It supplemented my handful of NY albums at the time very well.

Live at Massey Hall blew me away. Quite a good recording for a live performance. Is of course all his old stuff. Just Neil, his Martin, and a piano (and the audience which is at times good and not so good).

I see Harvest at the thrifts all the time, always beat to hell. One of those albums that got a lot of play by its owners.

There's a lot of bitchin' Neil & NYCH live recordings to be had out in the ether, from the early '70s through this past October (2011). Personal favorite tours are NY&CH 1976, 1978, 1991, and 1996. The 1999 and 2005 tours also noteworthy, but hell he's been on fire through all of 2011. Past CH, NY & The Bluenotes shows circa 1986 are good fun too.
