LOL. Not my dad. Though he did tell me a lot of stories about intercepting those bombers…propellers that spin in alternating directions that would create wicked turbulence, & they’d use that to their advantage at night while flying silent and blind. They’d creep up from behind at a lower altitude and slowly ascend until the rear aileron started to shudder from the turbulence. Then they would drop down a few feet, creep up underneath the bomber to the nose of the plane in order to look at the serial number stamped under the nose cone. Had to use a flashlight. The Russians kept changing the numbers on the tail in an attempt to confuse the USAF, but there’s no way to change the number under the nose.
He did go on to fly with the Thunderbirds in ‘85-‘86…I’m going to have to ask him about that upside down maneuver.
