New HT System

I'm piecing together a HT system using an assortment of items and wonder what make/model would be a good, hi quality center speaker that would compliment this mixture of brands. I'm using my old two channel stereo system for the front mains - Nakamichi PA-7 amp with JSE 2.0A speakers. The pre-processor is a Rotel 1098 and a Sony 550 blu-ray. I'll use an NAD T955 amp for the rear and center speakers. The rear speakers are Def Tech UIWRCSII Reference in ceiling. My mains have a 10" and 12" woofers with no roll-off till 30 hz, so I'm hoping I will not need a sub. Your thoughts and input????

Regards,

Larry

First thing is first: 7.1 or 5.1?

I would recommend a sub no matter what main speakers a person might have. You don't even need to redirect channels to it; dedicate it to the LFE channel.

A center channel is quite important to the front imaging (specially to off-axis viewers), and takes some load off the mains. If you plan on getting one, make sure it has a similar sound to your mains (Compare drivers, tweeters/horns, sensitivity, etc).

Do you plan on calibrating? If so, what procedures will you use?

Can you provide a placement plan? What dimensions are the room and the materials used in it's construction? These factors are quite important, and will effect the sound to a large degree.

I am not a fan of in-wall speakers at all (Especially in the ceiling), but that is a matter of taste. Just strive to achieve a similar tonality between the rears and mains.

Your processor, while of high quality, cannot accept HDMI audio. Are you planning on Bit-Streaming the classic DD or DTS, or are you going with the analog outputs on your player?
