Hello all! Thanks for welcoming me to your community!
Just a little information about me. I'm 23 years old and ever since I was a young teenager, I was always interested in good sounds. No, were not talking the loud thumping subwoofers in the car that wake the whole neighborhood up at 2AM. I was the guy that preferred to have a better stereo in my bedroom as opposed to my car. So instead of investing a bunch of money in car subwoofers, my money went towards loudspeakers, components, and magazine subscriptions. My friends all said, "Why don't you get a mini Hi-Fi system and spend the extra few hundred bucks on subs? Its not like it makes a difference anyways!" I kept responding, "Because those systems suck compared to real systems!" My friends all thought I was crazy for not going overboard on the car sounds with the money a teenager was spending on home stereo, but, they all stopped making fun, when they heard the best home stereo a 16 year old could dream of having. Thats what made it all worth it. Was that moment when they stopped and said, "Wow... those sound really good."
Gradually working my way up the Audiophile chain, I grew up with a guy whos father is an Executive at Ford Motor Company. Now this guy, is an audiophile! Some of my knowledge and interest was generated from this man's stereos and home theatre systems, and what he was able to do with them. Now, as a teen, I had some pretty good sounds rigged up - better than what most my age would. But obviously they were nothing compared to this man's $14,500 pair of Sonus Faber loudspeakers. Hooked up to $20,000 tube pre-amps and receivers with high quality tuners. Lets not forget the $5,000 "Super Audio CD" component player or the $10,000 turntable with the $2,000 tone arm and $1,000 cartridge and more. All of this equipment, produced a stereo image so realistic, so deep, so warm and so crisp, its impossible to explain how good they really sounded. It was one off those systems that made you swoon. Most can't justify spending that kind of money on audio equipment. But thats because most haven't heard how good they really sound. I always have a goal at heart, "My system will be that good someday..."
With long running subscriptions of "Stereophile" and "Sound & Vision" magazines, I get a healthy dose of whats going on in the hobby, as well as whats changed, whats getting better, whats new etc. Technology changes so quickly now days, thats its important to keep up on all the new stuff.
I hope by being a member of your community, that I can provide information and feedback that will benefit other members. I like to write, and will contribute reviews I write of new equipment that i've tested or obtained, and i'll probably pick brains, because I love to mess around with different speaker configurations and placement. I hope I can be a good contributor to this community, and I hope to learn a lot more, as I induldge in my favorite hobby, with others that are just as passionate!
Thanks for reading!
