Hi Folks

I am based in West Australia and don't know much about stereos so I expect I may have some pretty obvious questions to ask. I had a low end stereo set up in the 1970s but had to get rid of it when marriage and children came along. I am now getting back into it. I still have my old Sansui AU101 from 1974. Recently I got a pair of Kenwood 20 watt bookshelf speakers and a Marantz ST450 tuner from the rubbish tip and a Dual 601 from a garage sale. I also have a Kenwood KR55 that came from ebay but don't have any speakers yet that can take the 60 watts it puts out. I think I have got the vintage stereo bug.

Welcome to AK! I think a fair number of folks from Australia are here and suspect you will cross paths with them.

Welcome from the US! I have a friend in WA about 50k south of Perth. Truly, the old analog stuff is great. I am still running my Sansui 9090 from 1975 along with a Dual 601 that I will NOT part with, thank you very much! The Dual TTs had a thin tonearm that rejected vibration from the speakers (especially if you kept the lid closed) so that you got nothing but clean sound from the unit. Try a pair of Bose 301 bookshelf speakers with your system---I just replaced mine from 1979 (the rubber rotted on the cones after 29 years); bose made me an offer I could not refuse if I would send my old ones to them, they replaced them for about 1/2 of the current price. I could not pass it up and they are true Bose quality. Incidentally, I bought a Bose Wave radio for the bedroom to use as an alarm clock and radio/CD player---WOW is how I best describe it; it is worth every penny they ask! I also use Bose 151 outdoor speakers when I build systems for outdoor backyard entertainment areas (I am a builder/electrical contractor) and my customers just love them, even 5 years down the road. I also have a pair of them at my ranch and have used them for several years with no complaints. Anyway, good luck with your system.
