New music listening room.

Well, not a new room exactly. With proding from my wife, I have finally rid myself of the hideous floral print wall covering, and opted for a nice two tone paint finish. It sure was a pain moving everything back and forth and the thought of tearing down my system only to set it back up again in two days time was a little unsettling. Now that its done, I'm sure glad I took the time to do it.

Here are a couple of before and afters. The before is a oldie, but shows the wall covering in all it's "gay" glory. Not that there's anything wrong with that.

The stain in the carpet is courtesy of Bailey the Audio Dog. Next step, rent steam carpet cleaner.

Very nice Ron, amazing what a change of color can do for a room.

Thanks Bill, the original wall covering had been in place from when the house was built back in '86. We purchased the home in '01 and I had been dealing with it since then. It didn't really bother me too much until we converted the room from a formal dining room to a music/reading room a few years back. When it was a "Dining Room" it never really got much use. Mostly for holidays and such. Now I use it pretty much every day.

One other benefit to the exersise was that it gave me a chance to practice some cable management. It's still a little ratty but I was able to keep interconnects separate from power and speaker cable. That along with replacing a pair of 12AX7's in my Pilot, fixed a nasty hum I was getting through my horns :thmbsp: One thing I have learned is that a 2-space wide horozontal rack is great if you run alot of components, It's a bitch for keeping cable runs separated.

Well worth the effort.

Yeah, flowers on the walls just isn't right for the listening room. :)

My room is some dull shade of olive green with a black ceiling - pretty boring but it does let the equipment sort of speak out and what the hell, the lights are off most of time in there anyway. My wife is forever trying to get me to at least hang a few pictures in there but I keep telling her that will make me compromise on the acoustics.

Yes, she shakes here head a lot, says I'm crazy and is thankful that my weirdness is at least confined to one room in the basement.

I wonder if there is a retirement home out there for all of us tweaky and twitchy audio types. That way they could keep most of the weirdness under one roof. Im sure there are a few old audio guys that are constantly trying to move their oxygen tanks around the room because it's mess'in with the presentation :D.

Well, I may feel more at ease in that room now. It looks great! The Frazier's really pop out now.

As far as cord management, It looks 100% better than it did. You may even be able to swap some stuff without it becoming a nightmare.

You may be onto something there Ron - a home for old audio wackos. Some generic sleeping accommodations, dedicated listening rooms and everybody wheeling themselves down to the hall regularly for live music events.

Damn, that sounds good, enough to make me look forward to a few years in a 'home'. :)

Very nice Ron, amazing what a change of color can do for a room.
I was thinking the same thing! In fact, it's really amazing! The speakers look different. The stand looks different. The system in general looks so much improved!

I've really got to get some paint! :D

Looks great Ron! :thmbsp:

I think 100% is a understatement regardless of individual paint color preference. That floral paper was just a tad too much. You, my friend, had to put up it almost as long as I did.

By the way, I'm making a run over to Aarons to listen to the NHT's around noon today. Just FYI.

The system sounds different also. Not as fruity sweet as it did last week :D

Fruit sounds nice, but I think we'll all much prefer the sound of rich, smooth mocha java!

Fruity was my favorite part of the sound of your system. Dang!

I could try replacing the rice bags supporting my Altec 291's with pineapples. The use of pineapples for support might just bring some of the fruity goodness back.
