While browsing ebay I checked a new listing of an AU717 buy it now. Turns out it was really a 517 1 owner in great cosmo/funct shape per the listing. Owned by a sound tek and well taken care of. Lot of big clear pics showed no probs.
So I ask seller about the error, if there would be a price diff. and since it was somewhat nearby would the shipping be less. Shipping was reduced to $30 from $45, for me, the unit was relisted correctly and the price reduced to $199.99 BIN. So I did, and at the same time did a BIN for a laser scan svc mnl 2 rows above in the listing. These X17 sansui's go for lotta bucks so I figger I did OK

Needless to say I'm pleased. The unit's in Tahoe and I'm in the Bay area Ca, so I should be seeing it maybe fri, by DHL and not the brown van.

I too will be driving a pair of B&W DM602s as the earlier AKer who landed a AU517. It also has rack mount ears if anyone needs a pair. I don't. Just pay shipping. PM me. Sometimes it's good to have things turn out well

That's one of the Sansui's on my short list.................:thmbsp:

Never met one I didn't like.

P.S. PM sent...............

Your making me feel bad for picking up the AU/TU-517 off CL that was somewhere in the middle of us.:D

I have said it before, I am really impressed with both the AU and the TU-517.

Enjoy your purchase.

P.S. I am keeping my rack handles.

I'm lookin forward to puting it in use. Lotta Sui fans seem to have hi praise for that series. I like sansui anyway and have had 4 different rcvrs. It's got 2 separate poweramps like my HK Cit. 12 had. So now I'll be back to where I was only in a more compact situation. I'll put my kit built Eq in the pre/main loop and be good to go. As for the rack mounts, bentpencil wants em ifn they'll fit his piece, and he's given me a copy of the owners mnl. I have no use for the mounts. And it don't bother me not getting the CL 517. I've sold some things lately so have $$ to spend.

Hi,
I have had my 517 sounding for a couple of day since it got home. I hooked up it to a pair of Monitor Audio Silver S2 and the sound is great. The MA are a little bit less bright than the B&W DM series which I own too. I find a great match between MA and vintage Sansui amps.( I own a G- 5700 receiver too) After one week, I am going to hook the 517 to my DM 602 S2 and let you know my opinion about how they perform together. I believe they are going to be a good pair and the Sansui will benefit the B&W in the bass region but you may have to play with the high frequency control to avoid a fatiguing sound. Anyway, let us know about your own experience with them. By the way, my unit is in mint condition, and the ebay seller sent me the original replacement fuses, original service manual, and a couple of rack mounts never used. I won the unit by bid for $163.00. Shipping was $30.00 by UPS ground from Maine to Maimi.
Good Luck and Regards,
Jorge.
Excuse my English. I write it often because it is my second language.

I understood all that you wrote! Keep up the dialog -- we like reports.

Congratulation to both OHFG and Jorge on your recent purchases. Hard to beat the quality from any of the 70's Sansui gear especially the X17 models.

Jorge, I'm also a MA fan and have a pair of S6 towers. I use them in my HT but have listened to them with my AU-919 and they are an excellent match. :thmbsp:

So it arrived Fri undamaged. After a qwik cleaning and blowout of some dust and a wipedown I chkd DC offset, coming in at around 4mv almost right away and after a few mins all was stable. Gadz it weighs a ton. Had to use a dolly to haul it in house. Hooked it up to my B&W 602s and let a little Les Paul come thru. Sounds excellent, with abit more lo freq than the Kenwood. It should with 2 PS and amps at 65w. I think I'll keep it.

Hi,
I was almost sure the 517 could help the B&W in the bass region. The B&W DM 602 S2 and S3 are excellent large bookshelfs, but they are a bit lack of bass, specialty when they aren't well placed. The AU- 517 is a very good integrated with a lot of bass and highs. Never hooked up a vintage amplifier to my B&W so I am going to let the AU -517 drives them.

my 602s are 8yrs old, probably S1. Got off local CL in like new excellent cond. My 1st B&Ws. Now the only spks I own, but I like em alot. and my new au517 gives them just the umph needed in the low end. If I find some 604/704s on CL I'll move up to them, but thats a big IF.
