New Theater Room

Guys;

I moved about a month ago - my new house is larger, and rather than having my gear in the living room, I elected to designate one of the upstairs bedrooms as a HT room.

The room is pink, which originally I was going to repaint, but now rather grown on me for the purpose of a theater room. It's a very bass heavy room - I set my bass control on the MX-132 for a -5 in fact.

It's a bit small, but I still have 9 feet between my viewing position and the plasma screen. I need to get some more decorations, and I want to purchase a nice dimmable sconce light fixture to replace the standard wall fixture. Who knows? Some future day I may build a dedicated HT addition - for now, though, this is better than my last digs.

Looks really good.:thmbsp: Small spaces can give you that nice comfy feeling. Room treatments can help tame the room.

Try a neutral color for the background behind the set vs. the pink.

Your eyes play tricks on you. The colors on screen will look more natural with a neutral background. An easy way to see this is to use the PAINT program that most PCs have. Draw a white rectangle in the middle of the screen and then color it any color you choose, but white would be a good start. Then paint the entire background any other color and observe the rectangle color. Now try a neutral color for the background (gray is the ideal color), but white or a light tan will be good and see the difference.

Those who have a large screens for their HT,will almost always use a black backgound. Colors jump off the screen and are not shaded with a black background.

Dimmers can add noise to AV gear, check to see if the lamp is going to be on the same circuit as the system.

Looks good...

Purdy slick! It makes one wonder what room treatments would do for ya. And it wouldn't cost as much as with a big room. :thmbsp:

Oh, that's the other huge plus about this room. There is only ONE window - and very little "bleed" from the adjoining room across the hall. With the blind shut is quite dim (the photo cell LED night light behind the couch is on most of the time unless I turn the wall light on. Those drapes I bought are "black out" drapes designed to reduce light transmission 99% It's very dark in there with the drapes closed even on the brightest of days. So the wall color behind the set isn't a factor when viewing - in fact I'm glad many of my remotes are back lit or I would have to turn a light on to read them.

Looks like a very nice, warm comfortable room. Good job! I agree that the back wall color should be more neutral, but if it works for you, thats ok.

I particularly like the rack holding your AV gear...what brand is it, and how much did it cost?

I sure wish I had a dedicated HT room instead of my living room.

But, anyway, I can understand why you have so much more bass. Speakers in corners, and the low ceiling on top of it. Major low frequency room gain.

Swapping the position of the speakers with the two racks flanking the TV probably would smooth out the sound quite a bit.
