New to me MAC-4100. My first Mc!

I recently purchased a MAC 4100. I love the soul of it. I’m an active reseller in the Tulsa area and a life long stereoholic (66 yr old) I’ve had more gear than I could begin to count. I bought it to resell, but it sounds so good. I may keep it. It didn’t have a wood case but I’m a carpenter so I’m in the process of building one. I just looked at online pictures of others and got started this afternoon. It will get veneered in cherry, simply because that’s the only veneer I have a long end piece to make the grain continuous. I’ve veneer, many many speaker so this is pretty simple. I’ll post the veneered result this evening. Any suggestions for color? UPDATE.::Case is done. The color is more brown than pic suggest. Lighting a bit skewed this time of evening.

The original case was a walnut-grained vinyl over particle board on the MAC4100 IIRC, so walnut would be the more traditional choice.

Me though? I’d go with a natural cherry over stained, never liked the red stains that people tend to put on cherry. If you want cherry to darken, the sun will do that!

I think I’ll test some neutral watco danish oil on some scrap. Now I will say. This DOES look spectacular but it would be a bit much for a mcintosh

Congrats on your 4100, I'm not surprised that you're loving the sound of that unit, they're quite impressive. I've been a Mac separates owner since the late 70's but I've always had this one room that had a Mac 1700 in it. Trouble with it though was the lack of line level inputs so I swapped it out with a 4100, that was early last year. I absolutely love it. It's paired with a nice set of JBL L-166's, by far the best receiver/speaker combo I've heard. Mine (pictured here) came with a custom walnut cabinet in walnut, the one you built is stunning.
