Hello all,
Been lurking for a few months, and figured it was time to get my feet wet. Visiting my brother a couple months ago re-kindled my interest in stereo gear. He's an audiophile with some nice, slightly older high end gear. After listening to his equipment, I decided I need to update my equipment........which means to actually go out and buy some. Had some nice lower end Realistic stuff in the 70's and AKAI stuff in the early 80's. After that I kind of stopped buying gear due to other expensive pastimes.....school, racing motocross, girlfriends, etc.....

After being pointed in the direction of one of the "monster receivers" by my brother, I've really become interested in the Sansui 7070, 8080db, and 9090db line. I know there are others on here who could argue ( with good reason) for the other makes, but those seem to stand out to me. I'm thinking of finding one as a nice Xmas present for my self, so in the meantime I'll keep reading here. Lots of people here who really know their stuff make it a fun read for me.

Jumped on the bandwagon (again)

I've finding my way back to Audiokarma on a pretty frequent basis meanwhile purusing craigslist and thriftshops. When i was a kid I was really into the vintage audio scene (I'm 27 now) and for hours I would listen to my parents LP's on my dads Sony STR-6055 and Techincs turntable. For the last few months I've been wanted to get back into it. It was finally this week when I put together my reciever/speaker set:

Reciever:
A nearly perfect Kenwood KR-8050 I picked up for $120 that after about 5 hours of cleaning both inside and out looks amazing. The inside wasn't terrible but I know now why everyone swears by Deoxit. This thing weighs a ton and i just love all the solid aluminum knobs and faceplate. I thought I was done with listening to the radio forever until I fired up the tuner. I have never heard any modern day tuner with clarify like this.

Speakers:
Fisher ST-828's. Not one single scratch on them. They look brand new still. Got them for $60. Pretty darn clear and warm sounding matched with the amp. Huge amounts of clear big open bass. I don't think there is any need to use the loudness button. Plus I love the look of the red band around the high/mid's and the white woofer.

It does without question blow any of the newer stuff I have owned out of the water. I am so glad to have made the jump back in.

here's a few pics of the amp:
