Greetings all. I've been lurking here for a month just looking for info on what to do with my home theater and how to upgrade it. My dad went to school in the 70's for tv/stereo repair and while i never was good at fixing things, i sure inherited his thirst for buying electronics. (Although I certainly dont have the money to be a high-end audiophile... someday!!!) While a lot of my equipment has come and gone over the years, here is a short list of the stuff I still currently own.

AV-Receiver: Onkyo TX-DS575X (looking to upgrade to a TXSR805)
Front Speakers: Advent Heritage (first gen Heritage from the early 90's, not the new garbage, and I'm so happy to see everyone here seems to be so high on advents!)
Center: DCM KX Center Series 2
Surround Speakers: Awia SX-N3500/3550 (I swiped these off my wife's shelf system when it broke down. They say 40w/6ohms.)
Subwoofer: Polk Audio PSW10 (This is a sad low end POS that I bought when my nicer sub blew and i didnt have any money for a better one)

My old stereo reciever for the office is a Technics SA-GX130. I cant wait to move the small Polk Audio shelf speakers (nice and heavy for small 6" shelf speakers - no model number?) but this receiver for being no big deal sounded great with the Advent Heritage Speakers.

I'll post threads in the appropriate areas with questions and ideas on what to do to upgrade, but for now I'll say hello and cant wait to hear from everyone.

Matt

I found the old manual for the Polk Audio shelf speakers and they are either RT25i or RT35i. I dont know which.

Welcome, Matt! Thumbs-up on the older Advents. In this town, Advent didn't have to do a lot of promoting. It seemed they told their dealers to simply play Listen To The Music by The Doobie Brothers over the Advents, and sold pairs went out the doors regular. Again, Welcome!

Thanks for all the welcomes... i knew this was a good group of people when i signed up! (My wife is going to hate this!! lol)

Welcome to AK Matt, BTW, we know lots of sweet talk that has been throughly tested and known to work on spouses.

I just had a conversation with my wife. I have a post on the speakers thread where I was asking for suggestions on a new subwoofer. One of the ideas was to build from a kit so I could get a 500 watt 12" sub for $400 vs preassembled equivalent which typically run $600-$800 or more. My wife asked me "what do we need with a new subwoofer, the one we have now is just fine(Polk Audio PSW10: 50 watt 10" sub and i hate it)." I just rolled my eyes and walked out of the room. I'm going to need some of those "sweet talk the wife" suggestions! lol

Where are you located? Snag a subwoofer "kit" from madisound.

Evan

Just north of Milwaukee. I was trying to find a non-big box store to do some window shopping and to get a listen of some nicer mid-range to high end stuff, but I couldnt find a store around here besides Best Buy/Circuit City/American TV/ect.... there is Flanner's in brookfield and I haven't been in there in a year but from what i remember they still push things like sony and boston acoustics. I'd drive to Madison to get a listen at something different or to get a look at some kits. Do you have a website or a phone number?
