nordmende globetraveler

It's not just the upper end that C is making stronger. I've been adjusting C to make a midpoint station signal stronger. I believe C42 affects all frequencies, not just high end ones.
C42 affects tuning, mainly at the upper end. L41 shifts tuning at all freqs. If L41 puts all stations more or less on the marks, C42 may not need adjustment. Try C22 to improve reception at various dial points as C42 basically finetunes at any frequency. C42 affects L41 and vice-versa.
 
I did try C42. It didn't change anything after I changed C22 and L41. In all cases it provided the strongest signal at its current setting. I'm sorry if I'm mixing up C22 and C42. I've been adjusting C22 with L41. It's C42 that seems to be fine where it is in all cases.

PS - What's really great is that now the strength meter is working on the AM band.

Glad it was that simple.
i don't think I've had to touch my GE Superset since I bought it new ca 1979. One of the best for AM self-standing. I got another at a flea market that was a challenge to get working on AM again due to " magic screwdriver disease" from a previous intruder. Got to do a full alignment by the seat of pants and intuition on a unique lattice filter AM IF without instructions. Everything in the AM was waaay off, and the main chip was flakey.
 
I powered up the radio while I had it opened. I was able to discover where the oscillator coils and trimmers are for AM and FM bands. I've got the dial pointer matching the selected frequencies and the signal strength at its highest. Thank you all, especially Pio1980, for the support. It turned out that I needed nothing more than a willingness to experiment intelligently (so as not to mess up everything), to make adjustments while watching the signal strength meter and to know the frequencies of the stations to which I was listening. Oh, and non-metal adjustment tools.

I'm really confused. Nordmende seems to have manufactured multiple Globetrotter/Globetraveler receivers using model numbers like 4/601, 4/601C, 7/601 and 7/601C. I have all the schematics, and they all have 99% of the same part numbers except 4/601C which is totally different. Can anyone shed some light on why 4/601C is so different from the others? I can map about 90% of 4/601 to 4/601C so they both have most of the same parts. The part numbers are just completely different. I know some of them were sold in Germany and other were exported such as to the USA. If someone can post a picture of a 4/601C, that would really help. That model has buttons L, M, S and U-FM. I don't know what the button title is for the multibands. Thanks.

I think 'S' selects the SW multiband switching.
