Not 1, not 2...but 3 turntables at once!

I came home this evening to find a note on my door "I have 3 turntables if you are interested - any reasonable offer at all accepted" ...:zoom:

It was a neighbour in my building, 2 floors up, several doors over. I did not run, but when he called me back a while later I was soon at his door.

I just came home with a Sony PS-LX22, a Pioneer PL-155A and a Dual CS-508. No, not the Oracle or the Thorens I was hoping for but I'm not complaining. No money has changed hands yet but I have some projects on my hands, and in time and with luck some money or barter will be flowing back his way.

The Sony looks to be in the best shape, with maybe just some cleaning and polishing to be done. The Dual will need even more work on the lid, and repair to the cable as one RCA plug is gone. The Pioneer has deep marks in the lid from the cord that was wrapped around or laying on it and needs a belt. They all have cartridges/stylii though in questionable condition but the Dual stylus was replaced (he says) not that many sides ago and is of course an Ortofon.

Ultimately I don't think any will be keepers but it will give me a no-risk opportunity to play around with 3 different models, and will keep me off the streets as I refurbish. Some time and money into each, and share the proceeds with the neighbour...

...I only wish he had let me know a while ago when he gave away 750 records! :tears: Fortunately at least most of those ended up in the hands of another friend, who has that Oracle as well.

The Sony has a Sony cart VL-5 with ND5G stylus.

The Dual has the Ortofon TKS52e with a stylus that has a red dot and says 14 on the side.

The Pioneer has a Nagaoka MP11.

I know the Sony is just ok, the Ortofon is what one would expect and I am ok with that but I am most curious about the Nagaoka.

All very good tables, the Pioneer would be a superb backup. If undamaged, the Nagaoka is very nice sounding.

A backup to my back to my backup...and so on...you get the idea.

I like them all for one reason or another and all of them are well worth fixing up, but all not as nice as the top 3 or 4 I have around here already. I might keep that cartridge though as I don't have anything by Nagaoka except a headshell.

That part of the story, "if you had come a bit earlier, I would have given you (insert LPs/tubes/amps/TTs we dream about)" is very common...:thmbsp:

Enjoy!
