Picked up a pretty decent thrift copy.I knew this was a pretty rare thrift find as I see that in my thrift experience that most Pink Floyd vinyl is not that common.Just wondering if anyone if anyone is familiar with this.I am mostly familiar with DSOTM and beyond.$1.00

Oh yeah. I'm a big fan of the pre DSOTM albums. Have them all except the Relics compilation. Love it! It's actually a soundtrack from a French film. I love the tribal elements on this record. Especially the vocals at the end.

They did another movie soundtrack released as More. Keep an eye out for this one too. After Syd left they had real trouble writing songs that would be sucessful on the radio. Their management were getting frustrated. I think these two movie soundtracks must have helped pay the bills and allowed the band time to create their own style.

So no 'Piper at the Gates of Dawn' at the thrift shop either? :D

I actually found a great copy of "A Nice Pair" at goodwill about 8 months ago. The "Piper" disc sound pretty good on it, too.

Obscured by clouds is an excellent album.
I bought that when it come out in the 70,s
I also have Ummagumma,Wish you were here,Animals X2, Dark side of the moon X5 [the picture disc the coloured vinyl,2 Quadraphonic coipies and the stero version]. The Wall X2. Delicate sounds of thunder and A collection of great dance songs.
Total cost was probably was about $20 and most are in mint to Ex condition.
Admittedly it takes a few years of hunting and upgrading to achieve

We used to cruise with that one on 8 track in my buddies hurst tri-powered '66 Goat back in the day :smoke:

I have two very good condition thrift copies

I bought a used copy probably about 1974. It has not been less than 30 years since I have played it. Maybe it needs a revisit. Dunno what I paid for it, not that it should matter, I would guess half of new.

Definitely a good grab. :thmbsp: It's not easy finding decent deals on early PF, they definitely have a demand. I've had A Nice Pair for awhile, so had the luxury of waiting for a decent price. Found a lightly scratched Obscured about a month ago, for $15 I think it was, & felt pretty good about that, so you did well. :thmbsp:

Interesting comments from all of you all.I'm going to listen to it tonight if the kids allow me to.:boxing:I found a nice copy of UmmaGumma awhile back and have yet to listen to it.For the Umma lp i was thinking it is the spaced out, long trippy epic songs and was thinking I need to be in the mood for it.

For me "Obscured" will forever be linked with a great mountain biking trip to Moab about 20 years ago. For some reason the group of guys I was with unconsciously decided that we wanted to hear Meddle and the earlier stuff so we listened to everything we brought, including the old tape boots. If you have any interest in Floyd you should hear all the early albums.

BTW, I don't think I've ever seen a Pink Floyd album in a Colorado thrift. Nicely done!

"Obscured" is proto-Dark Side. Although a soundtrack, it really flows. Dreamy and then all out rock.

The post-Syd to pre-Dark Side Floyd finds an arty band really stretching out. Their live shows/boots from that time are my favorites. Find the 1970 and 1971 BBC sessions. Excellent stuff w/ some droll John Peel comments thrown in.

Obscured by Clouds is a KILLER PF record!!
I have certainly never seen that one at the thrift! Good score!!
My copy is on the Harvest label; as is all their early stuff, I believe.

Give the album a spin: Betcha you'll dig it. Great pre DSOTM record.

Love early Floyd! Bought all of them back when they came out and played the heck out of them. Have them all again and play them form time to time. Obscured and Meddle are always two of my faves.

I listened to it tonight and for the most part I liked it.It was quite relaxing I thought and well recorded as most PF is.I'm going to have to check out the Ummagumma lp I have had for about a year without listening to it.My thoughts are it is not going to be the same type as OBC.

The track "Free Four" has one of my favourite lines in it. "The memories of a man in his old age, are the deeds of a man in his prime"

Ummagumma is different in the sense that they are two completely different albums. The first record could have been released with the title "Pink Floyd Live" while the second is the studio album containing the new material.
