Ohm Walsh 4 Current Value? What to look for?

I have an opportunity to pick up a pair of Ohm Walsh 4 speakers for $100.

I'm wondering what to look for to determine condition is good and if $100 is a good deal?

Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks!

$100 is a steal, unless they're in very bad shape. I think they've got to be going for $500 or more, it's rare to find them for less.

The drivers will probably need to be refoamed. You can put light power into them to make sure they work, as they're facing downwards.

They went for ~$2000 new, I'd say $100 is a bargain today. They're amazing speakers, give them some power and they have the potential to blow your mind.

Seller says that "to my ears everything works".

In addition, he doubts the speakers have ever been serviced, says he's never opened them up, and has had them in his living room for around 25 years.

How much would getting them refoamed run?

Check the cabinets carefully for structural damage
Make sure all the drivers are present and original
Make sure all the drivers work
Check for damage to the drivers

Crossovers can be updated, surrounds can be replaced.

Don't wait too long! That's a really good price.

If you do it yourself, probably $20 for the foams and a couple hours of your time.

Ohm will service the drivers, and provides upgrades. If you follow the link posted above a refoam from the factory looks like $250 for the pair. Not cheap, but when added to that $100 I think you'd still be way ahead of the game.

Call Ohm Acoustics and speak to John Strobeen, he usally answers the phone, tell him you're a member of AK and he usually gives a discount on service. I had my Walsh 2s done and it was worth it to have them refurb the cans, you don't need to send the entire cabinet to them just remove the cans on top but be sure to pack them well so the delivery gorillas don't damage them. $100.00 is a good price....period. Do a search on AK for a thread titled "Ohm Walsh 2 recap" by jhaan92 and see how much detailed infomation you can garner from what started out as a simple xover recap that ended up being an entire refurb.

I am glad a ran across this thread while surfing the web. I was gifted a pair of walsh 4 that needed the sub reformed and like others have mentioned I called Ohm and the owner answered and was very helpful. 150.00 for a total maintenance and to reform the sub. I pay shipping. So with a total maintenance, reform and shipping I will be in this for about 300.00 and have an excellent pair of 1980 ohm walsh 4.. thanks again for this thread
