Yikes , my G22000 is flikering into "Protect" not a solid "PROTECT" but flickers on and off really fast then stops , then a few click.. click.....then ok...then not... no real patttern, it does it when I bring up volume more but still does it ( but less ) at low volume levels . This happens however only when I use my Turn table on either .... Phono 1 or Phono 2inputs ? please help , I'm scared :tears:

Checking the DC offset is the place to start. You need to take the wood side covers off the amp to get to the trimmer pots. The one closest to the top of the driver board is for offset. The one in the middle of the board is for bias. You measure bias current at the test connectors at the bottom of the boards. Offset = 0mV +/- 3mV. Bias = 15mV +/- 5mV.

You might have a wow problem from the TT and since that is usually below the hearing threshold, you don't actually 'hear' it. You might see it, though, if you can see the woofer cone.

However, these 'wow' signals typically cause huge power excursions due to the large power bandwidth of, say, 30 CPS signals. Get a scope and check that out.

Engage the low filter (it will filter any really low freq signals) on the G-22000 and see if the problem goes away. If so then Morton's idea was correct.

Just in , the adjustments suggested( thankyou ) wer strongly considered however are beyond my comfort level for the tweak so I decided to take her into town , unhooked everything and moved in the SX 1080 ,
( same thing happens )
now here is a new piece of info I'm using AR9s that I just got and had all the drivers redone , I have now taken a meter and they are both right close to 4 ohms , then tested thru the spk wire to be sure I dont have a short , ..... am I just over powering the amp? I like to roll between 9:00-11:00 , If I stay at 9-9:30 she seems to hold just fine . ?

Are you saying the SX1080 also trips into protection? Do you have other speakers to try? Something is funny here.

- Pete

It is possible that you could have a bad speaker or crossover in the speaker and it still read 4 ohms with a meter. It is the inductive reactance (Kinda like an AC resistance) that determines the load on the amp, a bad crossover or speaker coil could cause this problem.

I am working on a G-22000 that a symptom was tripping the protection at about 9-10 oclock but when I tested it with my 8 ohm load it did not go into protection outputting 250 watts.

yes it does , they both trip around 10:00ish , I tried both amps and 2 seperate sets of speakers and have the same sympt :tears:

really , :scratch2: Im not a very technical person , think I should take my speakers down and have them looked at ?

Have you tried a different outlet ? Sounds silly but maybe you are getting a power surge, or drop.

I have a G-22000 that I am working on one of the symptoms was tripping the protection at about 1/3 volume but when I tested the unit on my load resistors it put out 250 watts without going into protection.

AR9 + Vintage receiver = trouble.

I had the AR9's for a quite a while years ago and until I put a Hafler DH500 on them I had trouble. At the time I had a Marantz 2500 receiver and about when I started getting the volume I wanted, the Marantz would clip and I'd be buying new tweeters, upper mids or both for the AR9's. The Hafler DH500 solved the problem, then it got even better when I bought a pair of Hafler XL600's and biamped the AR9's.

Best,

Paul :thmbsp:

That's possible. The G-22 will trip into protection if the line voltage is too low.

- Pete
belive it or not I did change the power outlet I am using ? and am using a Monster power center that is ( full )I will look into that pronto. :sigh: thnx

good stuff thanks :thmbsp:

funny < im using a Marantz PM84 D on the AR's and rockin the crap out of them , no protection , so it the
G22000, shes going to the doctor next week , what a "trip" I'm very interested in how she sounds when she comes back because right now this little PM84D smokes the Sansui in SQ . I'm .... not.... happy about this.

Update : Kevin at Freds Sound of Music PDX has now went thru the G22000 tip to tails ,
( he cannot reproduce the trip into protect mode ) , we are lugging the AR9s down to him in the morning to test them together......
