Ok, how about some more fun...Who here has met any famous music people?

Hmm...met Coldplay after a show - they signed some stuff and were pretty nice. Talked with Ryan Adams after a show - I gave him a Johnny Cash button. Met all the members of Dave Matthews' band individually at various parties when I lived in Charlottesville, VA. Gave a ride to Clarence Greenwood (Citizen Cope) after a show because we were both going to the same party and I asked if he wanted a ride.

Not that exciting, but it's pretty fun to think about these people who are a part of our lives through their music all of a sudden standing flesh and blood in front of us just chatting away like it's no big deal. I just pretend like they're as nervous and excited to meet me as I am them. :D

Thought of a couple more.

Pete Shelley and the Buzzcocks
The Brothers Creegan (2 of the Bare Naked Ladies)
Long John Baldry (he used to live in the hood)

And, while I don't really meet him, I did work a spotlight at a Tom Jones show once.

Years ago, I was walking up 57th Street in NYC on a cold, blustery day. I was a little on the late side for an appointment so I was moving along at a pretty good clip. When I reached the corner of 7th. Ave, another fast-moving person came zipping around the corner and slammed into me so hard that I fell on my back onto the sidewalk, whacking the back of my head on the cold, hard cement.
In my dazed state, I looked up to see that the person who had plowed into me was now offering me his hand and apologizing profusely and inquiring into my well-being. As he helped me back onto my shaky feet, I realized that it was none other than Art Garfunkel. You gotta love the Big Apple.

These probably don't mean much to a lot of people but I've met a couple of my favourite 80s Australian indie artists.

Robert Forster (Go-Betweens): Saw him do a solo acoustic show as part of a literary festival last year and right after the gig he hung around in a separate room for a bit of a meet and greet. Nice guy, and got to engage in a bit of goofy banter about his next solo album.

Jill Birt & Alsy McDonald (The Triffids): Opened for Steve Kilbey/Ricky Maymi last month, and the venue was so small that they hung out near the stage between the sets. Only got to talk to them briefly, but they were very friendly and I got my copy of In The Pines signed.

Nathan Milstein
Isaac Stern
Jack Benny
Vladimir Horowitz
Mistislav Rostropovich
Elmar Oliveira
... just a few ...

Stan Getz after a concert at Fountain Street Church, GR.
Dave Brubeck stayed at a friends house when visiting GR.

When I first got out of film school, my first gig was working as the sound mixer for the Arsenio Hall Show. I met so many musical personalities that I can not name them all. My favorites have to be Patti Labelle, because she cooked for the crew when she came on the show. Cyndi Lauper is probably my second favorite. The guest I least like had to be Stephanie Mills, and Mel Gibson. Nasty arrogant people these two are. :thumbsdn:

Pantera at the Jack in the Box in my hometown back in '87 just before they broke out (I grew up about 15 miles from their hometown). They blended right into the Jack in the Box decor just fine and if you didn't know who they were you would've thought them to be just another bunch of head-bangers eatin' at a fast food joint and havin' spitball fights with straws and napkins.

I have a few friends in the music business and have met a bunch of well known musicians.

Jay McShann, Hubert Sumlin, Johnny Winter, Sonny Terry and Brownie McGhee were a few that stood out as really personable cats who loved to share their love and knowledge of music.

Buddy Rich had a reputation as being somewhat of a dick, and that reputation was probably somewhat deserved. In 1972, after a gig, at midnight, I hit Buddy up for an autograph as he was getting into his Jaguar. As a fifteen year old drummer, I idolized Buddy and also didn't have a pen, nor did Mr.Rich. Buddy dug around in his car for a full five minutes, came up with a pen and gave me an autograph. He then spent the next fifteen minutes talking jazz and drumming. Buddy Rich was one of the coolest people and the greatest drummer ever. :thmbsp:

Met Dick Dale a few years ago. Talked to him briefly after his show and we even exchanged a few e-mails. Extremely cool guy and man could he play.

I think we have a winner! :yes::tresbon:

The complete story is thus:

Some friends of mine and I went to a bar here called Schooners after work and we knew, of course, that she and the Blackhearts were playing in town that night.

This group of people came in and the guys all headed right to the video games but the girl just kind of hung back by a table. At first, I only saw the back/side of her head but I was sure it was Joan Jett by her distintive cut.

She finally kind of looked around and yes, it was her.

I walked up to her and, just to be polite, said, "You're Joan Jett aren't you?" Very original LOL.

She said yes and we just started talking about different things. I think she liked that I didn't get all gushy and stuff or try to hit on her or anything (although inside I was going nuts to be in the presence of such beauty and talent).

So, anyway, she said they had to get out of there to go rehearse a bit before the concert and I asked her if I could give her a kiss on the cheek. She laughed and asked me why I would want to do that and I said #1, you're Joan Jett and #2 so, in the future, I can tell people that I kissed Joan Jett on the cheek.

That was it and the weird thing is that I wasn't able to go to the concert because of family obligations.

I think I would have rather had my experience than see the concert though, although both would have been preferable.

I forgot one other person too. I talked to Joanna Connor when she played here a couple of times in about 2002-03. I just had to tell her she was one of the most amazing guitarists I had ever seen and I've seen a lot of 'em

My favorite has to be Rory Gallagher,after a Whiskey gig... he had just gone solo after Taste{1971}...my friend who was the fan at that time suggested we grab a beer....led to great conversation with the most humble performer I have met.{RIP}

Got to a concert early one time

We were sitting in our seats in a mostly empty venue when my friend recognizes Ben Montench walking by and calls to him. We talked music for 5 minutes. He was a gentleman. Jim:music:

That's the neat thing about Dick Dale he always encourages the audience to
stick around after the shows and come talk to him, I talked to him earlier in
2011.

He plays small shows all over SoCal and I see his shows about once a year
and yes that guy can still play extremely well and that custom fender guitar and
amp he uses sounds awesome, he does like to tell a lot of stories at his shows
about his early years.

We were close family friends of the Ames Brothers (post Ed Ames' departure) when they tried to set up here in Houston (in the early 60's) and later in New Jersey. Very nice folks, down to Earth and nice to us kids.

Met Dave Brubeck and his sons once.

Can't think of any others. Not much on celebrities. Unimpressed. I'd be more impressed with meeting someone like Stephen Hawking than some rock star.

Yeah, I've had a few friends and aquaintences get really mad at me because I never ask for autographs. The only 3 autographs I ever got were given to me without asking or prompting.

I was friends with Steve Gaines before he joined Skynard. I still get sad when I think of the plane crash. I also met his sister Cassie several times.

I never met them, but my 1st wife dated Steve Millers little brother for about 4 years before we met. I guess that doesn't count. Lol

My aunt (dad's sister) dated Mike Love of the Beach Boys exclusively for a year back in the day.
