My HK430 with a pair of JBL L112 - competes with modern, regardless of what the naysayers "know". Funk, Blues, Classical, Jazz, Ambient...it's all great. Small room helps. I have had a few 330 variants, 630, 730, 930, and the 430 is the one with the soul, for me. Klipsch Heresy IV is also a great one - can't decide between the IV and L112, different strengths, but both are extremely musical. I'll note that I've owned Naim, Audio Research, Redgum, Audio Note, Cary, and many other brands.
I'm trolling Craigslist as I write this. Can't help myself! There is a pair of really nice L96's right now in my backyard and I am doing everything I can to refrain. Uggghhh!
I bought an SX-780 new way back when. It was my first 'real' receiver, and I bet I haven't used it in a couple decades. That needs to change soon! It's one of those sentimental things, I guess, but I'll keep it. Luckily, I don't have to decide which one to keep! I've got my eye out for a R-117, though; I've been wanting one after discovering how good the R-115 is!Hypothetical questions are always the hardest to answer. But I'll play. It would be a close call between my Mac 4275 and my Luxman R-117. I would prefer to say my Luxman R-115, because of the power range. But I think we're talking about stuff that actually works, as we speak.
But dang! I love that little Pioneer SX-780.
Looking at Sony's now... specifically the STR-7065 and 6065. Are there other Sony's I should hunt?
Pioneer SX-1250. Because, well, IT’S A PIONEER SX-1250!
Seriously though. It is arguably one the most overbuilt piece of audio equipment ever produced and a 64 lb beast. With 165 wpc of power and excellent FM and phono sections, it epitomizes IMO, the pinnacle of Japanese mass market audio of the 1970’s... I like it so much, that I own TWO of them.
Yeah. Gotta have a backup.Same here, though I only have one of them.
