Ok, vintage receiver brethren... you can only keep one. Which and why?

Luxman R1070 here... love mine...Any higher power vintage Marantz. I have a Marantz 2252b here also, Luxman still. If I had a chance to put the Luxman up against a equal power Marantz....that could get interesting!

Thanks guys. This place rules!
Yes, I am really soaking up knowledge here and building a few systems. Currently I am collecting 70's receivers. I currently have near excellent condition examples of a Sherwood S-7110 and Harman 330B. Looking to add others and wanting ideas. There are SO many I am interested in though. Gotta be careful if I want to remain married and with all fingers. :)

My HK430 with a pair of JBL L112 - competes with modern, regardless of what the naysayers "know". Funk, Blues, Classical, Jazz, Ambient...it's all great. Small room helps. I have had a few 330 variants, 630, 730, 930, and the 430 is the one with the soul, for me. Klipsch Heresy IV is also a great one - can't decide between the IV and L112, different strengths, but both are extremely musical. I'll note that I've owned Naim, Audio Research, Redgum, Audio Note, Cary, and many other brands.

There is a pair of really nice L96's right now in my backyard and I am doing everything I can to refrain. Uggghhh!

Hypothetical questions are always the hardest to answer. But I'll play. It would be a close call between my Mac 4275 and my Luxman R-117. I would prefer to say my Luxman R-115, because of the power range. But I think we're talking about stuff that actually works, as we speak.

But dang! I love that little Pioneer SX-780.

Another thing about all the recommendations, those that read take away the written information from all those that post. What is the experience of those that post"
Single brand Fan Boys
One nice receiver they have had for years
Receiver collectors that have had a number of them through the house or have a large collection
Those that sold the gear new and know which ones sounded better when new
Those that repair and recap and know which ones are better candidates to have this work done
Folks that would not consider anything but the biggest of the line

All these different opinions would generally be seen as carrying the same weight for a final determination. Along with proper research...How many have gone to americanradiohistory and read the reviews of different gear while flipping through pages and pages of Pioneer ads?

Since 34 isn't keeping us up to speed on what he has it is hard to determine what we should recommend as another one to add to the fleet. Sure would be nice to have list of the systems he has collected already. Maybe info on the speakers he might be using with this new receiver evaluation.

I bought an SX-780 new way back when. It was my first 'real' receiver, and I bet I haven't used it in a couple decades. That needs to change soon! It's one of those sentimental things, I guess, but I'll keep it. Luckily, I don't have to decide which one to keep! I've got my eye out for a R-117, though; I've been wanting one after discovering how good the R-115 is!

Looking at Sony's now... specifically the STR-7065 and 6065. Are there other Sony's I should hunt?

The Sony str-6065 is an amazing receiver. I have two of them. I have had many pioneer Sansui Marantz. 737, 880, 950, 980, 1010, 2238, 2240, 661, 771, 8080d, 9090db and I liked the Sony the best of them all. It’s an amazing piece. Way under the radar. Find one for yourself and don’t let the secret out. They can still be had very reasonably.

Marantz 2270. Why? I still own it, my very first real audio purchase and probably the only piece I still have for which I paid list price.
I hook it up every once in a while and play a few songs and then promptly put it away. Still irks me that we threw the case away during a cleaning spree because it only cost $25 new. I do have a new custom case for it now purchased on BT.

Marantz 2275

It was my first good receive, bought new in 75.

Although I have rooms full of good stuff now, if I could only keep one, it would be the one.

I can’t say anything has been better enough to push it out. So it’s not a nostalgia thing. That is bonus.

Pioneer SX-1250. Because, well, IT’S A PIONEER SX-1250!
Seriously though. It is arguably one the most overbuilt piece of audio equipment ever produced and a 64 lb beast. With 165 wpc of power and excellent FM and phono sections, it epitomizes IMO, the pinnacle of Japanese mass market audio of the 1970’s... I like it so much, that I own TWO of them.

Same here, though I only have one of them.
