Okay, Polk Pro's - I Have A Few Silly SDA Questions

They are indeed rare beasts, the same version I found, SDA 1a signatures. They didn't want to throw out the leftover SDA 1 cabs when they eliminated the ports. Yours still have the original tweeters, and much better wood than mine. There was a recent thread on the Polk site about overhauling/upgrading these, which included eliminating the dimensional tweeter. Check it out if you haven't already. Most will recommend replacing the old SL1000 tweeter(s) anyway. My recently acquired Hafler DH-500 will be doing the driving chores when they're finished.

Hey Scott,

The veneer on these is in excellent condition. I haven't cleaned them yet but there's some light stains on the top of the cabinets that seem to look like it will clean up with just some wood cleaner. One scratch on top and a sliver chip on the back edge of one cabinet. That's about it. They'll clean up nicely.

No plans to upgrade them right away- maybe down the road after I give them a listen with the interconnect cable.

You haven't really heard them until you use the interconnect. :music:

As for placement, see if you could inch them up a little further, so they're at least parallel with the front of your rack, it should help the soundstage. Enjoy!

That's what I've been told, Face. I ordered the interconnect cable from Polk this morning and according to Helen, it will ship out today from Baltimore. The technicians assemble them on site as orders come in. No inventory.

The spot they're sitting in is temporary and I really haven't listened to them properly yet - too busy wrapping up projects in the garage before the snow starts to accumulate outside. I will take heed to all the suggestions presented thus far. I guess I have myself some keeper Polks - maybe not the best but certainly nothing shabby either. I'm looking forward to getting the interconnect cable. :music:

I have a pair of SDA 1C's and like everyone who knows have stated... Just wait till you get the cable. Magic happens when you sit in the sweet spot. You'll know when you get there.

Also as stated, correct placement is critical. So is the cable. From what I know, I believe that the cable is just straight through wiring. On mine, I have the blade-pin config and the blade is just a dummy terminal to hold the pin a bit more firmly. I have just made up my own cable out of a plug that I found to fit the terminal snugly and connected the two together for some SDA magic. You may want to see if that same principle applies for the blade/blade type connector that you have. I think that only one of the connections are used and the other is just a dummy help-keep-the-wire-connected-and-make-us-some-extra-profit-because-the-consumer-will-have-to-buy-our-special-cable type of connection. Go to the polk site, do a quick search then see if you can just shove a length of wire to try it out before you get your polk cable.

Just my $.02

Pin/Blade is wired different than blade/blade. With blade/blade, they are both hot. The large blade on one speaker goes to the small blade on the other speaker.

FYI, Polk no longer sells a pin/blade cable, but a blade/blade is still available for relatively cheap, so your assumptions are incorrect.

Only a moron would have designed a cable bass-ackwards and Matt ain't no moron. On the blade/blade cable, the wide blade on one end of the cable connects to the wide blade on the other end of the cable. The same for the narrow blade.

Actually, Face is right, which of course, makes you wrong.

So MAXZ28, did you get your cable? How do they sound?

I just tested my stock cable for continuity and both wide blades are connected to each other and the same for the narrow blades.

I don't need to read a schematic. I just tested my stock cable and all the dimensional drivers are working as designed.

I don't need to read a schematic.

You really should, it clearly shows how the cable is wired. In fact, all the blade/blade schematics show the same as the one Face posted.

Too bad you don't have a b/b cable and a pair of sda srs's laying around like I do to test your theory.
