Omega Speakers

Anyone familiar with these speakers? Particularly the Compact Alnico Monitors or the SUPER 7XRSMK2 floor standers? I'm kind of drawn to the alnicos, but would need to get stands and a sub. Their sub, the omegaDeep8, is a musical sub though, so wouldn't be against the idea. Can't really find much in the way of reviews or owner opinions between the two. Thanks for any input!
Here's a link: http://omegaloudspeakers.com/home.html

Although I like jazz and Latin jazz, the bulk of my collection is 80s alternative/synthpop. Human league, devo Gary Numan, ramones, clash, echo and the bunnymen cure, Smiths etc

Obviously not the same Omega that made the Omega 300 Silver Edition speakers that I got for Christmas in 1981. Man were those crappy sounding. 3-way with 12" woofer. Back then, a friend had a set of 2-way Jensen speakers with either 8" or 10" woofers that sounded so much better. I wish I could remember which ones they were. Maybe I'd find a pair to play around with.

The Omega speakers you are referring to where the low-cost speakers made by the DlK speaker company in St. Paul
I got a set as a birthday gift back in 76
I agree they were pretty crappy sounding
They sold a lot of them in prepackaged sets
Any of the DL K regular line speakers were miles ahead of these
DLK has long been out of business

I have a pair of the Omega 3T desktop speakers and the deep Omega 8 sub. The sound is wonderful at my work table. I'm going to explore a pair of the larger Omegas for my living room. Here's a shot of my desktop system, not pretty, but great sound.IMG_1390.JPG

I'm not a fan of the "single speaker" concept because of limited frequency range (HF, in particular). Omega publishes FR specs, but doesn't indicate any tolerance (+/-dB). There's a reason for this omission.

I heard the Super 6's with a Sound Quest 15wpc tube integrated and it was really enjoyable. I had a CD of bass heavy tracks and the little setup did not disappoint

Has anyone been able to hear the Alnico 6.5 inch and the RS7 7"

I really do not like piercing treble, but want enough treble to be balanced. Not a bass head, but I like realistic musical bass. For example, while some think DCM timeframes are bass shy, I think they are fine.

I've been the owner of a pair of Super 3i Monitors for about 18 months, and have not been able to get satisfying sound out of them so far. I must be doing something wrong. I've paired them with a couple of TPA 3116 amps, and a Parasound Zamp .v3. In each case, they sound very bass light, which brings out the treble in my recordings. Anyway, just one person's experience... check out the Omega section of the Audiocircle forums, there's a fair amount of discussion over there about the entire line of Omega speakers.

Unlikely you're doing anything wrong, you've discovered the limitations of a 4.5" driver in a small vented box. While I don't own these particular speakers, I do have experience with similar full range drivers in small stand mount vented enclosures. A small powered subwoofer can work quite well in "filling in" the missing bass octaves. Just requires a bit of experimentation.

I was most surprised by how much smaller the Omegas sounded compared to my Pioneer SP-BS22LR speakers. Perhaps the Omegas are more accurate, and the Pioneers were telling me pleasant lies.

Hi all,

I'd be very interested in hearing others experiences/thoughts/suggestions regarding OMEGA Speakers. I have been researching Single Driver speakers for quite some time and I'm in the market for a new pair of Speakers......I'm thinking perhaps/maybe a new pair of Omega Super 3XRS Towers might be a good match for my (soon to be updated) vintage Fisher 400 Tube Receiver.
I am looking for at physically smaller "footprint" Towers. I just can no longer deal with lugging/carrying HUGH/HEAVY Speakers systems as I'm not getting any younger.

SixCats!

I had the Super 3R on my desktop for 5 years. I loved them. the great is great to work with too. can't remember his name . you won't be disappointed .

Hello djnagle,

Thanks for responding to my inquiry. I was going to send you a PM to inquire if you still owned your Omega's. I'm glad you enjoyed the 3R's for five years. I sent a loooong winded letter to "Louis Chochos" of OMEGA Speakers last night. I look forward to hearing back from Mr. Chochos to hear his thoughts/suggestions regarding my questions regarding my Fisher 400 and the Super 3XRS Towers.

Regards,

I can't think of a better amp for those. I ran mine with a Decware Zen amp and it just loafed along with no strain. good luck.

I don't have them any longer. I built my own speakers and sold the Omegas.

I just got a pair of Louis' new high output super 3 bookshelf speakers. Each speaker has 2 drivers, but still no crossover. They sound awesome in my bedroom system. I've only been running them in about 6 hours but already the bass is pretty amazing. I won't be needing a subwoofer at all.

I got some dual-driver Omegas about a month ago. I love them but they are IMHO brutally revealing of bad recordings. I'm using a pair of OB eminence sub woofers to augment the bass.

They are probably still breaking in. I can't really properly judge them because my Marantz receiver is still in the shop. Right now I'm using a Crown amp to run the Omegas and subs. After I get the Marantz back the Crown will run the subs only.

I like to listen to tons of reggae and dub and on some of the modern stuff with super-deep bass the Omegas have a bit of trouble.

Sorry to butt into the on going, but looking for some knowledge myself. Anyone speak Infinity floor speakers? Looking at a set of ATX 2000. And was hoping to find some specs on them. Tried the usual places on the web with no luck. I would be grateful for any help. Thanks
