Onkyo, Cambridge Audio DVD or external processor?

Thinking of adding Home Theater/surround to another room.

I've got the amplification, I've got the speakers, I've got the subwoofer.

I've a DVD player, but it doesn't have the processor built in.

I've seen both Onkyo and Cambridge Audio DVD players with built-in DTS and Dolby decoding, so I could use that.

Or I could go ahead and buy a processor.

I use an Onkyo 6-dvd changer in one room, with an Onkyo HT receiver, and enjoy it, though the 6-dvd changers prove problematic (I'm on my 3rd in 3, 3 1/2 years).

The HT receiver unit is cheap enough at around $300, and a nice Marantz unit would cost $450, while the Cambridge Audio and the Onkyo DVD player with the decoding built in are also around $450.

So my budget would be $450 tops. And used is all-right. The Cambridge Audio DVD player can sometimes be had for much cheaper through a B-stock place I know.

But what about processors? I really like the DTS, and Dolby Digital, so it cannot be an antiquated unit.

For that kind of money, you could buy a universal disc player. That is, a player that has built-in capability to play DVD-Audio, SACD, Dolby Digital, dts and CD. I have a Pioneer DV-563A that has served me well for a couple of years now. New units from Denon and Yamaha are available at or below your price point.

Denon DVD-1940CI, $349.99

Yamaha DVD-D1700 $299.99
