Onkyo TX Problems

Has anyone dealt with a TX-88 receiver that will power up but stick in only one mode (CD) and will not play? I don't know much about the technology of the receiver, but I do know that I have taken the cover off, De-Oxit the pots and switches, and made sure the connectors were tight and dirt-free. It would work normally. I would turn the unit off. Then next time I turn it on, it would freeze. I've read that that some computer chips on this model can be intermittent. If so, I need to take it to a tech. Thanks for any helpful comments!

Just a shot - a lot of the receivers of the early 80's use to freeze up due to bad or intermittent crystal for the processor. Tap or heat can sometimes verify problem.

That helps, Steve, and I have not heard that before. I have tapped here and there on the circuit board but not sure what I was tapping, I was shooting in the dark. I don't know where the processor is. I thought of doing a flowing the soldering points again on the circuit boards. What is frustrating is, when it works, it work very well; then when it freeze. there is no budging it at all. I will check on the schematics to see where the processor is on this model. Thanks again for your help!
