Opinions and recommendations.Pairing a vintage receiver with a digital amplifier.

Those KEF’s are amazing bookshelf, speakers, i’m just not trying to put a Krell or something huge to run them under my desk, they love power to really sing.

I ordered the Fosi Audio V3 300W 48V from Parts Express. I’m definitely a novice when it comes to these things. 300W ? It was $110, they have 15% off Labor Day and free shipping. I’m trying out some of the interconnects they sell, Audtek Premium. I’ve bought stuff from them before, their service, packaging and speed of delivery are excellent.

Well, it says Fcc on the back. No ID number, but hopefully it's ok. Maybe the ID# is in the owner's manual.

If you’ve ever tried to run KEF 101.3’s and/or Phase Tech PC60’s on a Marantz 2226 you’ll find out why.

Not trying to sound like a jackass, I retired at 51, money is not a problem, this is just something to F around with. Thanks for the financial advice anyway.

Thanks all for info and advice, i’ll update on how it all turns out.

No way man, not at all! you don’t sound like a Jackass at all, I am just curious as to what your doing :)

I like to tinker with gear, I was kinda thinking you would come back with “I’m trying to accomplish something”.

Do let us know what you get and how it works out!

Good for you, I think you'll like it.

There seems to be some optimism in how power is rated. I see on the chart on the PE website that 300 watts is only available from the amp when using the 48V-10A power supply and then only into 4 ohms. I wouldn't worry much about that.

300W @ 4 ohms @ 10% THD if you have big enough power supply. If you want an "audiophile" lower distortion type power rating they'd probably be more around 180W @ 4 ohms. That's still quite a bit from a tiny package.

I was nothing but impressed with mine while I had them in service.

I still have two tucked away in a drawer waiting for an idea or opportunity to do something with them.

No dispargement intended if that's the concern.

My comment was intended only to illustrate that power vs. distortion specs are simply points on a curve. Pretty much every amp can be represented with any power vs. distortion numbers on its curve but at the end of the day it's the same amp.

I have a pair of what I might call the OG of TPA3255 amps. The Texas Instruments TPA3255 eval boards.

Yeah, I'm just approximating the clean power numbers based on TI's performance graphs for the 3255. Fosi units may or may not closely parallel those.

The "around 180W @ 4" comment is based on this TI graph at the 0.01% mark.

And, of course, presumes the PS is stout enough to fully support.
