sony tc 730

very good sound if it be calibrated. But subject to problems in transport, requires a greater maintenance than other tape decks, check the status of heads, wearing little more than other brands. It´s one of the first decks in black, heralding a fashion trend that became years. If it are complete and running for a good price, and if you have inclination for mechanical its ok

Thanks for the information.
Also, it has the infamous problem where the pinch roller doesn't switch over when reversing playback. I heard that it's due to the small tyre rubber going hard and not gripping the capstan. I tend to agree with this.
Where can I find such a part ? If it's not available, can I substitute from another machine possibly?
How about parts in general. I realise it's an old machine and parts may be scarce, maybe someone out there might know.
Thanks

Sony tc 580

actually i have sony tc 580, which is equal to yours but without amplification. The small roller that reverses the direction of the tape (auto reverse), must be redone, look for Terry Ruber in the United States. The mechanical part should be cleaned and lubricated, for the old dried grease over time. With proper operation has a beautiful sound. good luck!

Yes. I have cleaned and lubricated all parts. By hand the mechanism will move effortless. My only need is a NEW tyre.
I checked the website and it appears to been hacked.. WTF ?
Get back to us if you hear anything different.
Thanks

I remember before sending the roller for boozing, used for a time a wheel of silicone fixed in the roller , which worked very well, just to make the reverse,
