Original (Large) Advent - crossover and general questions

If the caps haven't been replaced perhaps do that while you're in there. The OLA aren't as easy as the NLA. There are several versions of the OLA crossover, you can find a discussion of them here: http://baselaudiolab.com/ADVENT_LA_XO.html
When I did my OLA's I used a film cap, probably an Audyn or Dayton, for the easier to access cap and an electrolytic for the one I found more difficult. If I were to do it today I would probably use two moderately priced Jantzen Cross or Ausyn caps on each and wire them in from off the board. I'm sure others would tell you just use electrolytic. IMAHO the Advent tweeters are not resolving enough for very expensive caps.
Ok, how about superficial veneer scratches or corner dings?

That's not a subject I'm very good on. You may be able to find some threads on how to approach that. FWIW it is sometimes easier to find an AK thread using Google than the AK search engine, though the AK search does seem, to me at least, better than it was.

Does anyone know if there any off the shelf Dayton crossovers for the Large Advents? All of the crossover building is over my head. I bought my Large advents and there is something wrong with one of the crossovers or possibly the cut-off switch on the back. Could also be the modern tweeter that someone put on one. I did by a couple of waveguides and was contemplating building the Econowaves but the crossover building gave me hives and I gave up. I'm just looking to improve the sound of my Advents. TY

Hey @capcapsaicin ... on my Advents that I rebuilt the crossovers on a couple months ago all four of the resistors were broken and the switches didn't work because of it. Honestly... it's SUPER easy to fix. Resistors are like $1. If you need new caps they might run you $5 each. I don't know jack about inductors but I don't think they go bad very often... so realistically you can rebuild your xovers for $14 in an hour or less.

Good question.

Do you have a multi-meter?

Did you buy the crossover circuit board?

What exactly is wrong with the way they sound now?
