Hey all,

Just popped in a 2M Blue stylus into my 2M Red cart...

WOW, what an upgrade...!

If you are happy with the Red the Blue is a whole new level...Save your money and keep the cart because they are the same...

I dont have an Ortofon 2M Red/blue however, i do know that the nude elliptical stylus on my AT120e is far superior than any bonded .03x.07 stylus that i own.

Im sure the upgrade on that cart is quite awesome!

i was completely surprised...I quickly grabbed an album to test to make sure it was in right because I had to bolt and pick up daughter from school...It happened to be Zappa's Apostrophe ...

next thing I know I'm being sucked right in and oops,

massively late picking up the kid...

Use the Blue on your pristine LPs and the Red stylus on your less-than-pristine. I agree, the Blue is a great performer

I don't have the Red or Blue but have witnessed this on the OM 10 to 20 as well as on many AT and Shure cartridges. I can't completely explain why nude styli always seem to be so far ahead of bonded ones. Tip mass, maybe? It really shouldn't be that much different, but my ears tell me there is something making a huge difference.

Now I sometimes prefer to use conical styli for certain records. What I'd like to know is if the difference between nude and bonded conicals are as fantastic as between elliptical ones? I've never used a nude conical but I know some exist.

That's why I bought the Red. For that exact upgrade path.

I have a Blue and agree it's a wonderful cartridge. I have to say my preference is still the Denon DL110, however.

I have a buddy that has the four. His opinion is that the Blue is a pretty considerable upgrade from the Red but the Bronze and Black are fairly marginal.

I had an original Red for a couple years. Seemed like a solid cartridge but that was the only cartridge I ever had on that turntable, an Planar 2 with an upgraded arm and platter. Only other cartridge I heard with it was an Elys or maybe an Elys 2. It was about $150 more and I preferred the Red.

I think if I were to start from scratch (pardon the pun), brand new and on a budget, I'd go for the Blue on a Pro/Ject 1-X Carbon.

I have a blue on my Dual 604 and a red on my Denon DP-30L or is it the other way around? I swich the styluses from time to time.

I have a Blue currently on my Gyrodec / Techno Arm - I originally had an RB 300 but the height was wrong for the Blue.
My only issue is the slight rise at the top end can occasionally sound sibilant and
a friend made me up a 'Capacifier' to play around with loading - but sadly as soon as the top is tamed it also sounds like
something is lost - so now I am wondering about the Black...
I never had any of these issues with my old MC25FL

+1 ...I have had both the Red and Blue and in fact, I still have a Red on one of my vintage TT's. I do like them both. I also had a Dyna 10x5 and I think I even prefer the Denon DL-110 to that one. You can get a DL-110 from Canadian Amazon for around $150.00 USD shipped. That's less than a new 2M Blue stylus.

Yes, the 2M Red IMHO is a best buy. I haven't tried the Blue stylus. I think the DL-110 is a great cartridge, if you can find it for $140. - $160.

Good luck with your search and happy holidays:banana::banana:
