Ortofon's 2MR cartridges

I'm not sure when they came out, but I just noticed the 2MR series, made specifically with a lower profile than the 2M series, so you don't need to mess with shims to adjust VTA on a Rega. Anyone here try one? I'm quite enthusiastic about this idea, I love my Rega but I hate shims.

Maybe a year or two. Time flies for me, so I don't know for sure. I had a Planar 2 many years ago, but it had a Grace 707 on it, so height adjustment was easy.

That's surprising they've been out so long, I can't believe I didn't notice them! With the Rega arm, adjusting shims sounds like an easy job, until you realize that when you go up 2MM the counterweight now contacts the dust cover when it's closed. It kind of kills the elegance of having a Rega.

I had a Planar 2 and I think i also added 2mm of shims, i had no problem when closing the cover.

Or maybe i added the shims after upgrading the counterweight? hmm...

With the present model Planar 6, I experienced the issue. Upgrading the counterweight is possible, but with all the fussing around I elected to avoid tall cartridges instead!
