I am at the moment busy buying an Otari MX 5050 B2HD which looks like it is in good condition.

Only my knowledge of head wear is not top notch.

So i need your advice if these heads are still ok?

Enclosed are also some pictures of the Otari exterior.

looking forward to your advice?

They look very good to me... but I am not a expert. Not a novice either.

Well put, and I would offer the same comment.

As another indicator, the overall appearance of the unit is one that has seen light use. I have seen a number of well used ones too-they were, after all, tape 'appliances' to many studios and radio stations, etc.

You have the 1/4 track playback head too-a nice option.

The 1/4 track is the option i like very much because then i can listen to prerecorded tapes at 1/4 and record new music in 2 track. Thats good to hear so when fully functional it is a nice machine to start with i think.

Aww, them damthings is JUNQUE ! Ain't worth th' Powder 'n' lead to blow 'em to Kingdom Come ! Your Best Bet would be to Box it up, & send it to me-I got a HUGE Gooleyhole in my back yard I'm tryin' to fill up, & the town told me No More Tires... Seriously, looks like you have a real CRACKERJACK unit there-You should be highly pleased...Those were the "Gold Standard" for recording not that long ago, & they STILL give an excellent accounting of themselves today.

Wish there were some better pics. In any event, there appears to be some light wear but I don't see any gaps that would cause me to not buy.

All MX 5050 B 2 HD has the internal switch in the rear for speed range. These heads look great and look like they've seen few hours. The overall condition of this machine suggests it has been used little and well cared for overall. You do need to take the back panel off to get to the switch. Do you have manuals? I have a PDF I can email you if you do not.

Not correct on the early versions of MX-5050 Kent.
There was a few with no optional speed switch mounted on the large board.
Mostly common with DC capstan motor option a switch can be find.
Have seen alot of different set-up of the early version, think they made 9 or 10 different configurations of the first series.

Thanks all for the replies this is what i wanted to hear. What i hear from the seller is that it is 3 speed also. It is including original manual and wired remote also . I think it is only privately used. Is there anything i need to check when i pickup the unit?

I will definitely ask him. He told me the Otari was also serviced this summer it is callibrated for Maxell tape also. Also the wired remote is included in the package. The total price is €470,00 around $590,00.
