P-Mount

I am looking to revive my Technics SL-5 and have these two P-mount cartridges. One was on the SL-5 and the other is from my fathers old Garrard Zero 100 C which has a broken stylus. Which body is the better of the two and I am looking to upgrade to a better P-mount or should I just get a better stylus for the bodies I already have?

Thanks,

Scott

Good bodies, and both should be pretty much identical. So, yes, do get a good needle for these. Most attractive offer at the moment would be the ATN152LP for ca. US$ 100 from Garage-a-records, I'd say...

P.S.: Darn, just checked over there: GAR seems to be out of ATN152LPs now - but at least they still offer ATN122EPs for 40 bucks.

Will the DLX line contact stylus work well with a linear tracker?

My brain thinks it should but I am just guessing?

Thanks

Seconded. I'd deem 148 bucks quite steep for an ATN142LP, though. Hence I'd suggest to either spend the 16 bucks more for an ATN152LP or alternatively consider the ATN132EP instead - I think Stereoneedles still offers the latter for US$ 69.

Lini,

I put the stylus on the TR475U body and it sounds better than it did on the other body. It still is not to my liking. I am going on the assumption that it is a relatively cheap cartridge, I would guess less than $ 40 USD. Do you think this body is worth getting a new stylus or should I just get a whole new cartridge.

I am leaning towards a line contact stylus/ cartridge but I find all the different models mind numbing and confusing. I am hoping to step up to an SL-7 or SL-10 and would transfer this cartridge to that table when I make the move.

I was running a Project Xpression III but decided to go to the linear trackers because of my kids and their friends playing in the same room. LT much safer from little kids curiosity and flying objects.

Thanks for all your input everyone.
