Paradigm Studio Monitor - Good deal?

First time poster, long time lurker.

I found a pair of Paradigm Studio Monitors on Craig's list for $400 listed as Excellent Condition.

A little background on these speakers - The Studio Monitor speaker was introduced a few years before the Studio Reference Series. At the time of their production they were the top of the line (read most expensive) Paradigm on the market.

I am having a hard time finding much more info then that about these speakers...

2 questions
1. Has anyone had a chance to listen to these? Can you give me your impression?
2. Is $400 a pretty good price for these? - from what little information I have been able to find it looks like these should go for more like $800

Thanks in advanced

$800 to $400=good deal........If $400 is a good going price:scratch2:

Thank you for your replay - I think I need to make my question a little more clear. The $800 figure maybe a little out dated, I was wondering if anyone has seen these for sale for similar pricing.

If they are in excellent condition $400 would be a good price. They go for $700 - $800/pair new.
I'm personally not a fan of the Monitor line, but for a budget system they should do very well. Just make sure your driving them with at least 100 watts. (80 will sufice, but 100 is the magic number and on from there).

again need to know model #.... the studio moniters came in studio 20, 40, 60, 80 and 100. i paid something like $2500 for a pair of 100's v2 as floor samples. $700-800 per pair new is complete bullshit for anything other than the 20's, maybe...

they are a great speaker, i also have the studio 60's v2... $400 for pair in great shape sounds like a deal to me

First I would like to thank everyone for there help so far, this site rocks. I will subscribe as soon as I get home from work.

again need to know model #....

There seems to be a bit of confusion on the matter, to be honest I'm not sure I fully understand how the series/model numbers work with Paradigm but as far as I know these are older (88-94) and they are apart of the "Monitor Series" their model is the "Studio".

Please correct me if I am wrong.

I do know they retailed for $1900 a speaker in the late 90s but other then that information is scares.

Edit* - found a bit more info for anyone interested http://barns.multiply.com/photos/album/77/FS_Paradigm_Studio_Monitor_3-Way_Speakers#1#photo=1

If they are the first generation Studio Monitors they wouldn't have a model number, they just say Studio Monitor .

I believe they are the first generation, sounds like these are pretty well regarded. I will go check them out this weekend a report back.
