Parasound P6 preamp

Also waiting to hear back... I would love to know if the DAC is good enough to ditch my Cambridge CXN v2 and get a Blusound Node and just use the DAC in the Parasound.

Sorry for the late reply guys, I ended up returning the P6, it just did not live up to what I expected. It had a few nice features like the bass management with the crossovers, but the sound just never bloomed.
I got a Rotel RC 1590 instead, which is so much better with a nicer DAC and much more for the same price.

Thanks for being the guinea pig. I do like the features on the P6. And like you said, the bass management was a huge selling point for me but it all comes down to how it sounds. You should post a thread about the Rotel 1590.

Yeah, maybe I will, there isn't much user reviews about it. Its a real sleeper, but a giant killer.

Could someone tell me if the dim button on the P6 is supposed to have a back light when it is used.
I just bought a P6, but the dim button has no back light like the other buttons, so I am not sure if its defective.
Yes, when the P6 is muted, it should be backlight in red.

I just installed a P6 this eve. sounds pretty good to me. I have been using a Cary Audio Cinema 11 and it was no slouch. this is a bit simpler but does all I need since I only need 2.1

I just finished an email exchange with a Parasound rep and it was very interesting. It was mainly about the difference between the A23 and A23+, which he said was minimal and suggested that A23 owners who were itching for an "upgrade" should put that money in cds and records instead. But he did add that the difference between the P5 and P6 was big and was worth the extra cash. They spent a lot of time on it apparently.

I got mine open box with warranty from Safe and Sound for $1400. I ordered the P7 at first but i changed my mind. the P7 was under $1000 at Safe and Sound but I wanted to hook up some of my digital stuff also.

I nornally have had issues with DACS seeming to be too revealing but so far I havnt noticed any issues with the P6. has plenty of bass ability and not bright at all . Keeper after countless other preamps.

hey gang, longtime lurker here. I can attest to the prowess of the Rotel RC1590. It's awesome, especially with its completely separate stages and a power supply dedicated to each, digital and analog.

I had to return mine, though, and haven't found a good replacement. Every time somebody turned something on near it, it would send a huge POP out the speakers! The higher the current, e.g., a vacuum cleaner, the louder the pop. I was very sad to see it go. My RC-1570 doesn't do it, nor does my Yamaha pre or any other I've tried. Maybe it was just a bummed unit???

Funny part is I had it paired to my Parasound HCA-3500 amp which is why I was looking at the P6... I'm glad I found this :)

I´m so satisfied with my P6 - To me it sounds really great - not at all dry in my ears, as one in this treads heard the P6. It is so versatile with all its inputs, that really makes it almost the only preamp in the marked, to be the centerpiece for me and my elaborate setup. I love it setup febr 2025.JPG:)

Got this P6 Friday, I am trying hard to love it but, its so dry sounding. It has a great soundstage, great separation of instruments, bass is nice and tight, but so sterile.
I wanted it mainly for the bass management, which seems great but if it does not warm up soon its going back. I got it as a demo deal from AA, so it shouldn't need much burn in.
I have been using the little Zpre3 for a couple months to tide me over until I could decide on my next preamp, but I swear, it sounds better than this.
Not too crazy about the looks either. I will give it another week to impress me.
I have now had the P6 for exactly 5 years today - Taadaaa - and I totally love it. Its my dayly control center for both analog and digital stereo and TV sound. it forwards everything to an Emotiva poweramp and it all ends up ind a pair of B&W 805 matrix. So ending up in the 805s - the descriptive words DRY and STERILE has never entered my mind listining to the job the P6 does.
I use the build-in DAC but not the build in RIAA. Not because of the RIAAs sound but because I have two TTs and one of them have a balanced output (Thorens TD1601) - so my RIAA pre-amp is a two input Pro-Ject.
