Penncrest Console???

mjennens

Old Guys Rule!!!
Does anyone have any info on Penncrest consoles? I can pick one up for $25. According to the seller, the TT doesn't work, but the receiver does. Not that I need another project, but a guy should always have something in reserve...:scratch2:
Thanks,
Mike

It's probably mostly Panasonic in the receiver and amp and either a Garrard or a BSR turntable. If it were not a console I would say go for it, but for something that large, there are better to be had. Most likely solid state.

Penncrest was one of J.C. Penney's Brands in the 50's and 60's.

Agree probably a BSR. The Balance Arm is all wrong for a Garrard. Probably on Par with Silvertone(Sears) or Airline (Wards) of the period.

Try Sams for a photofact if you get it. Other than that, I'm stumped.

Turntable looks like a mid 60s BSR from what I can see of it- to me, not a great endorsement.

If it's solid state. even for $25, I'd pass....unit looks a little shabby and cheap to me.....and I bet it probably sounds the same way.....but, if it was tubed, I'd have it home by now

Sorry to be negative, but passing along my two cents.

coming from a guy that recently did a little work on a penncrest, these are lo-fi. i'd pass also unless you have the space for a really oddball garage system.
