Phase Tech PC-800-HO

Phase Tech has offered some of the BEST sounding systems I have ever heard. I'm a happy owner of a quasi-vintage PC-80/90 system. Do yourself a favor and invest in new drivers. I replaced my 6.5" mid-bass drivers for $55.00 each and 10" DVC sub driver for $90.00 about 4 years ago due to foam rot. Not a bad investment for another 15 years of listening :)

Thankfully, their new stuff use neoprene rubber surrounds. Saving up for a pair of PC3.1 II

It's nice to know that parts are still available if I'm not satisfied with my repair work. Not many companies sell parts for 23 year old speakers.

I got mine from JoAnn's Fabric- you should find it somewhere on the web I would think. A 8"~10" cut out of that to stick to a face weighs almost nothing- worked really well for my project and many projects since like the foam baffles on Infinity 4's and 5's!
DC!

I recently completed a refurb with my pc40's and matching sub. I recapped the sub with Daytons. The satellites got the vintage oil cap treatment. They sound incredible. I have the 40's mounted on the wall next to my downstairs computer. They make a perfect little triangle with my head. I use a Sansui Au717, and listen to Internet radio. These speakers are awesome, holographic.

Glad you got them running! I'd be interested in more listening impressions as you have time.

Well, I've been using them daily since I repaired them, and I have to say I like them a lot. I'm using them on either side of my computer desk in my office, which is where I end up doing most of my listening. I'm driving them with a Pioneer PP 7189 receiver, which is less than ideal, but it's plenty of power for the small space.

I really can't think of anything wrong with them. They have strong, controlled bass, good midrange, and they aren't fatiguing. Other speakers I like include the Polk 10, Infinity RSe, KLH 6, and large Advent.

I refoamed the 10" woofers in a set of PT PC8.5s last winter http://www.audiokarma.org/forums/showthread.php?t=210129. I wasn't thrilled with the way the new foam surround fit and the roll size was a bit smaller than original. It was sooo worth it though! They are rock solid speakers and very smooth and accurate :D. I never did redo the foam over the face of the pistons yet. I did rebuild the very complex crossovers, some of the original elecrolytics were blown.

Nice job doing your refoam, they look like a decent fit.
enjoy listening to your's .

Nice, old thread on these speakers. A friend asked me to go through a stack of gear for him, and a pair of 800's were part of that stack. Looks like I'll be trying my hand at returning these, as well.
