Has any one heard of these?
Heavy cab .. about HPM 40 size maybe a little bigger.
Two way with an eight inch woofer and dome tweeter.
Acoustic suspension.
They didn't seem to have a lot of bass for the cabinet size but I only had them hooked up for a few minutes and not to a particularly warm amp..
I've hear good things about Phillips drivers.
Any info would be great.
I'll try to post pix tonight.

Philips during that period put out some pretty good stuff. Their tweeters and mid range drivers were especially respected.

You have some gems there that's for sure! I had a pair of 477's that sounded very good, similar cabinets to yours as well. Great sound!

I bought a pair at a thrift about a month ago. They grow on you and I have become quite fond of my "Phillies". They have really good treble definition; plenty of highs (so you couldn't call them "Phillies Blunts") but they aren't strident at all. I do use them with some boost on the bass tone control, but I get substantial bass. Nice binding terminals on the back, too.

The only drawback is the vinyl walnut cabinets, rather than actual walnut veneer.

As for techical information, or dates of production, etc., I've been trying to find that myself. It's fairly scarce information.

Philips AH 476

I've had a pair of 476 for years waiting to find a 10" woofer for it. When I bought them they had one odd woofer. Great philips mid/tweeter found in many other speakers.
8" philips woofers are pretty common too so parts should not be an issue for the 475.

Small World!!:yikes: I just saw those exact speakers at my local TS earlier today. I am now regretting not paying the $10 for them. :grumpy: May go back and see if they're still there. :naughty:

YamahaFreak,

The more that I listen to these the more that I like them and I have quite a few good speakers.
You certainly can't go wrong for $10.

Salvation Army.
I almost passed on them as well but I figured for the price I could always sell them or give them away.

Did you get the ones at the TS?

I'm in the process of convincing Mom that I need another pair of speakers. "But they're half the size of my Energy Connoisseurs!" :huge:

Thanks for the link!

The tweeters in these are clear and look like they have foam behind them.
Does anyone know if they are "foam" tweeters?

Steve
Yeah, I noticed that too. Kind of a cool design. Not sure about the construction, though. :scratch2:

Too funny (AH475) Philips

I just grabbed a pair of ah475 for 20xx at my Salvation Army in Plattsburgh NY
LOL

Found a pair of these at the thrift tonight. $6 each. I hummed and hawed for a few but let them go. I have enough speakers at the moment and don't see any real market for them to resell. Interesting find though.
