Anyone recognize or know anything about them?
Pulled from Phillips bookshelf speakers rated 20W @ 4ohm.
8" Woofers were shot, in a shed facing up must've got wet. Boxes were actually pretty nice.
Both tweets test good.
Might pull the crossovers tomorrow.

Very hard to find this variant of the World's Worst Dome Tweeter. It took me 6 weeks to find a pair, (located them in Norway). Keep them!
 
They look like the tweeters that were in my Avid 102s. I think they sounded very nice. They were the one pair of speakers I really regret selling. Find something to do with them if you can.
 
Compared to domes with metal diaphragms, these tweeters aren't so bad. Early metal dome units have extreme resonances and very poor decay times, complex impedances, don't handle power very well and aren't great performers either. So I wouldn't call the Phillips the worst, but maybe one of many from that period of history that can't come close to what we expect from a dome tweeter today. Its like saying the Volkswagen Beetle was the worst car ever built. Yet if it weren't for theBeetle a lot of us wouldn't have gotten to school every morning or our DADs being able to get work economically in the 50's and 60's for less than a penny per mile. Beetles didn't have Air, the heaters were miserable, windshield wiper a joke, the seats uncomfortable, and they were noisy. But they got us there and they got us home. So enjoy your tweeters.
 
I guess beauty is in the ear of the beholder as i always..I thought they were a pretty good tweeter back in the day. They are truely a tweeter only you need to cross them over in the 4-5K area as a minimum they don't go low as i remember so need to be with a smaller woofer or in a 3 way. Lafayette radio sold these as a pair with crossover caps for about $15 in the early 1970's. Avid and a few others used them in some of their models.
 
Yep, kept, I'll do the reading, also got the crossovers so I think I'll build a pair of bookshelf speakers,
find some appropriate 8" woofers to go with.
Any recommendations? Prob hard to do in hind sight without box cubes, maybe I'll take a pic of the crossover,
if anything can be deduced from it?

Have a pair of philips 8" woofers here and 4" mids that would be perfect for those tweeters :)

Would send 'em your way but I get Christmas presents from England a year late!
Cap is 12uF, 25v, no other markings component wise.

Question on these crossovers, or on any for that matter,
can I run just the tweeters thru these, leaving the woofer leads un-terminated?
Same for the tweeter leads left open while running woofers?
Wanting to test freq cutoff etc with tone generator.

I bought a pair of Dyncaco A-25 speakers and someone had put these in as replacement tweeters. They sounded excellent! Good find.
 
2nd project in line, gonna build a pair of PicoWreckers first!
10" sub enclosures by LilMike over at AVS.
Like the LilWreckers so much thought I'd build another set from same designer.
#1 Son bringing home two 10 Alpine woofers so kinda pushing it to have him bring two 8" as well!
