Phono cartridges for C2200

I have an opportunity to get a good deal on a C2200 tube preamp and I was wondering what phono cartridges work well with the MM phono stage in the C2200. My current vinyl playback system consists of the LP12/Ekos with Adikt MM phono cartridge.

Older threads show the Audio Technica AT440MLa as a popular choice with the C2200.

What other MM or high output MC cartridges has anyone had success with the C2200? Does anyone have experience with Linn's Adikt MM cartridge and the C2200?

Thank you.

I am a fan of the AT440ml, but your system deserves a bit better. I used a Clearaudio Maestro with my C220 with wonderful results on my Thorens TD125 table which, like your table is suspended.

Any moving magnet or high output moving coil designed to work with 47K should do. My back up mm cartridge is a goldring 1042 – sounds great through the phono in my ma2275. Great tracker

I'm using the Stanton 681EEE or the Denon DL-103R with a set of Lundahl step-up-transformers since its a low output cart. Both are very nice.

Cheers,

David

I have an AT 440mla mounted on an old AR table connected to my C220...SWEET!

I highly recommend this cartridge......wait for it to break in before you judge its merits....

I really like the AT150MLX. The soundstage became much wider, more air around the instruments. Works great with a Technics SL-1200 M3D and C-2200, MC275 through Klipsch Cornwall's. The more I listen the more I like the cartridge.

Help an analog newbie out here please. I have a C2200 with an MM phono section with the following specs;
Sensitivity, Phono: 4.5 mV for 2.5 V out @ 1kHz;
Input Impedance, Moving-Magnet Phono: 47K ohms, 65 pF;

I have a Dynavector 20XH cartridge with the folowing specs; Recommended load resistance > 1Kohms / > 30 ohms
How does this affect the sound?
I have never been that pleased with the Dynavector and I've wondered about it's compatibility with the C2200's phono section.

Wouldn't a cartridge with specs such as MM, 5mv output and 47kOhm be the ideal matchup with the C2200 specs?
Cartridges with these specs seem to be all lower cost cartridges such as the Sumiko Pearl that have the specs that seem to be an ideal matchup. http://www.needledoctor.com/Sumiko-Pearl

What value would a "true MM" cartridge have?

I think you'd get the best answer(s) to this question at Vinyl Asylum - lots of Dyna users/fans over there.

AK is not good enough? :sigh:

Dynavector search in T&T gave me 239 threads in 10 pages.

Fair enough.

But you I hope that you know that I think AK is great :tresbon: (and gets the most of my posting time - especially this forum). I've recommended AK to many people on Audio Asylum and other forums (especially when they ask McIntosh questions) - it's my standard reply to many specific questions about Mcs on AA - so it seems fair to return the favor when I believe it's justified.

I believe that some forum cross-pollination is a good thing and not a breach of etiquette. If it is, please let me know.

There is no problem. Most everybody knows AA, SH, AC, Polk, Klipsch, Lansing, and on and on. Here people know each other's setups and likes, dislikes. Something cross posting is not going to reveal and 95% of the time proper information for giving a good response is not given. But that is one's choice just as posting on the 100's of audio forums that there are out there.
If it was me I would post my question to the biggest turntable geek I have ever met and has rolled every cartridge with reason, which is probably $8K.(?)
That is our fearless leader of course.

George W. Bush is a turntable geek?:D

Seriously, I must have missed the memo. I assume you are talking about AK's leader, but I don't know who he is, let alone that he's a TT geek. Please bring me up to speed.

Thanks,

Alberto

I love my Grado Sonata, my experience is limited with only this one cartridge. That being said, I am curious about Koetso. Midrange with more extension if I understand it correctly. That involves getting step up transformers or phono-pre amps, which involves more wires, and I really don't want to destroy what my C220 does so well.

Anyway, thanks for letting me know that Grumpy is our fearless leader and AK founder. I did not know that. Let alone that he's a vinyl addict.

Alberto
Actually Tim "Kamakiri" is the founder. McIntosh forum was his idea and he talked me into seeing if I could make something of it. :stupid:
If you catch the name and the site fonts you would know what his favorite album is. :smoke:

The whole list that is the link at the bottom of the forum page.

Nice piece of trivia, I would have guessed Ozzy Osbourne (see pic).

It would be nice if the FAQ had a bit of AudioKarma history and trivia. I am sure I am not the only one who did not know these things ...
