Phono hum and no ground wire!

Photographs on the internet are copyrighted.
It came from another AK thread, thought it would be easier for the OP to look at than post a link to that thread , but you are correct so I removed the photo.

Mea culpa! I'm the one who started this legal nightmare. I just wanted to know what those nifty cartridge-clips are. Is there any way I can find out, without breaking the law?

Provide a link to where you saw the pictures. You could even mention (credit) the photo's owner if you know it.

I have tons of photos of gear and repairs. I share them freely with anyone who asks but get annoyed when they get stolen.

dahoo, in post #6 above identified your cartridge as a Shure v15 Type IV. if that is what you have it is a well regarded cartridge.
Yes! The cartridge was handed down by my father in law. I knew it was quite a step up from what came with my turntable, but otherwise know little about it. No instructions either..

I was able to wiggle off the ground tab described above. Still humms. I have tape around the metal mounting screws but don't know if it's affective or not. The link actually says to use metal mounting hardware if you remove the ground tab so perhaps I should take the tape off..

It's still strange to me how both the phono inputs have a hiss when selected and volume turned up with nothing plugged into them.

Aux, and tuner are clean. Even with the turntable plugged into, using the turntables preamp. It sounds great to me in this arrangement but my brain can't help but want to figure out the phonos...

The hiss is not a problem when a table is connected, right? No issue there, just don't crank the volume on an unused input.

Check in to the common DJ mod called internally grounding. I had a table with a him issue, and an internal ground took care of it.
