Picked up a Linear Tracking TT yesterday

My baby is a Revox B795

as others have mentioned changing cartridges on it is a PITA - which I resolved (as Revox did a few years after my model) by fitting a p-mount adapter.

The ULM (4g) arm is perfect for high compliance cartridges - and p-mount is ALL high compliance (if anything a bit low compliance for the Revox)

Right now my favourite cartridge is a Shure 1000e fitted with a N97xE-SAS stylus (p-mount with shure damping brush)

Although I do have a Shure V15VP waiting for a stylus....

Also a range of other T4P cartridges.... still need to do some more comparisons

Right now have been focused on my Pivoted armed table... and testing a range of 1/2" cartridges - which would be a nightmare on the Revox. Once I get through that and get back to serious listening, I will probably gravitate back to the Revox.

Just kidding - Goldmund did use JVC motors, and the Rabco was I believe a very close relative of the Goldmund arm..... I am meremly envious.

Remember hearing one playing some of the most "real" recorded piano I have heard , at an Audio salon in Melbourne over 20 years ago.... (Playing through an All Metaxas system, with ESL speakers.... very nice indeed as I recall)
 
I picked up a Technics SL-Q6 at the local GW a few years ago and just love the programming feature of it. It's not my main rig TT but I've kept it around because I can hit a track button instead of cueing the track manually and I like the compact size of the TT. :thmbsp:
 
I've been building DIY passive LTs for about two years and wasn't really impressed with the active LTs I'd heard so when I bought a Technics SL-5 last weekend just for the ducks of it, I had about zero expectations.

To my considerable and pleasant surprise it works and sounds very good, good enough to be a strong challenge for any new passive designs I come up with.

:D I have the series with the JVC motor since the Pabst motors were discontinued - as well as any spare parts...
I only have experience with the Rabco ST-7, and while there are similarities with my T5 arm, I wouldn say they were close relatives, more like distant cousins.
The Goldmund arm has some quirks, but once properly set up (take your time!!!) it's capable of all the good things linear arms should do and then some. :banana:

I remember while we were listening to the Goldmund - an idiot browser walked into the showroom/listening room, walked over to the TT (which was playing) and pushed down on one of the suspension feet/towers - pressing down maybe an inch or two - then let go...
The table tilted, wobbled once and stabilised almost immediately - but the really impressive thing was that through all this, the tracking was unaffected - and the sound continued completely unruffled. Not my showroom - but still felt like kicking that idiots a***. - The table and motor are great, the fact that it could keep tracking through this sort of abuse says a lot for the abilities of the arm.

In any case a truly exceptional table...

Congrats on your Pioneer. I've been using the L1000 I picked up in minty condition with a V15, and couldn't be happier.

I'm going to have to put a towel down under my mouth :drool: after looking at the PL-L1. I was better off not knowing something like that existed.
 
Yum, Yum, Delicious the PL-L1. Love those Japanese home market delights we don't get here. In Pioneer, the Exclusive line I especially admire (Pioneer does McIntosh like build).
 
Why not look at doing up a PL-L1000/1000A for LP/45 archival purposes. Much easier and friendlier to deal with than the Linatrack.
 
Heheh the LT fraternity are a little miffed that one of the faithful is using a mere pivoted arm....

I have to say in my search for a SME bayonet mount TT, my first go to was the linear tracking tables... but I could not find anything within my budget (including shipping to Australia...)

I have ended up with a very nice pivoted arm servo damped JVC.... but would have preferred an LT with exchangeable headshells (and damping? Biotracer?)
