Picked up a pair of Dahlquist DQM-905's

Member Sir.Byrd sent me a heads up that there was
A CL listing in my local remote area for the speakers
and a Yamaha CR620 receiver.
(Thanks for the Nudge Will, I changed my mind )
I passed on the receiver but got the Dahlquist's.
Im in the process of parting with a few items
instead of bringing items in but I could'nt pass them up,Also -
(Member Speakerlabfan has a pair of these,So I picked his brain
for inspiration before looking at them,Thanks Dick !)

Seller was the original owner that bought them new,
Along the way she had kids that found their little
Fingers fondling the Dustcaps and one of the tweeters
So both are crushed pretty good,I'll try the Vacuum
cleaner trick when I can locate a nozzled one !?!

Otherwise nice Oak cabinets that could use touching up and both grill covers with badges in decent shape.

Ive got them hooked up to a McIntosh MC 2505 amp
and up on stands and they sound Very good,
It will take some adjusting as Im soo used to my
Polk SDA's but they are staying where they're at for awhile!

Excellent!
I already have the DQ-8 which looks to be the same driver configuration in a phase aligned floorstanding cabinet.
Surprising bass for the 8" woofer, huh? Pull it out and you'll see that its not even that impressively built.

Nice. I have a pair of those in a darker finish. I had them in my main system for a while as a substitute while my RSIIbs were being upgraded. A lot of sound and punch for their size.

They got knocked out of the main system by the Snell Type C/i I picked up, though - no shame in that!

Great speakers, nice snag Mark! I knew you'd like 'em. No brainer.

I've had them in the lighter and darker finish. The drummer for local bands The Posies and The Long Winters picked up the pair with the lighter finish. He traded me some Kenwood rack gear for them, and he loves them. I think the grilles are very classy with those wood side panels.

Good luck with popping out the dust covers - I've use duct tape with good results.

All Vifa Drivers and designed by Carl Marchisotto while he was at Dahlquist. Good Stuff....M-905, M-907, M-909 were the three models in the series.
Here is a pic of the M-909...If you can find a pair of these Don't hesitate to pick them up....:thmbsp:

LOL! I just picked up my second pair of M905's yesterday! These ones had the woofer dust caps pushed in too and one fuse for the tweeter blown. A quick fuse replacement from my working pair told me that this new-found-pair are just fine.

During my cleaning, I took the vacuum hose and approached the pushed in cap with the wand in one hand and I made an "o" with the fingers from my other hand as a buffer between the hose end and the dustcap....this allowed a metered amount of suction and what do you know, those dust caps popped right out. :thmbsp:

Have fun with em!

BE CAREFUL with a shop vac!!!!....they are extra powerful. I used a household vac.

Ditto on that warning! :nono: If you DO use the shop vac, try putting some cloth over the end of the vac to reduce the seal/suction, and proceed very slowly and carefully. Some shop vacs are powerful enough to "eat" your whole driver cone, if given the chance!

Nice dustcaps-I like your darker finish better also
I like the lighter finish better.

Sounds like a great opportunity for a win-win swap! :D

I didnt read the warnings until after I had completed
the task,But All went well as I was pretty careful !
It was a small sized shop vac and worked fine.
Some small dimples still remain from years of being
Collapsed I reckon,But they look alot better and
The most import thing,Sonically they sound wonderful!

They are up there with the better "Two way" speakers
That Ive heard that are similar in size,
Including original large Advents and Polk monitor 7's
& PSB 500's.
Im Happy ~
