Picked up a Thorens TD124 Today. Need some info

Hello, I picked up a TD-124 today with a Shure M16 arm. The serial number is 1320. I was curious to know what the year of production is? All I've been able to find was that the 4 digit serial numbers are early (late 50's). Anyone have a reference to serial number ~ production year?

Thats got to be an early one. Is that a stylus cleaning brush? I have never seen a brush like that. Does anyone know if that was manufactured or is that home made? I have rebuilt a few of these let me know if I can help.
 
With a tt like that you need to get hold of the book on Thorens called Swiss Precision. It is a mine of info on idler drives, especially the TD124.
 
I tried it out on a couple of mono records, my system is *usually* mono anyway. I think this old stylus need to be replaced because it sounded like crud.

I'm still trying to find a reference to serial number vs. date of manufacture...anyone have a lower serial number??

If it´s any help, mine is Sr. Nr. 16.602 and was sold to the original owner in 1960. I would assume yours is a really early one.
 
I just talked to a friend of mind and he said there was an article that mentioned that the first 3000 TD124 were made "by hand"
 
It appears that the tonearm mounting has a square cut out rather than the later angled notch, indicating that it is a pre 1959 unit. Also, the earliest units have a brass flywheel...
 
Just for reference, I got mine in the mid 60's and its' serial number is way past yours..
Interesting thing is; I'm betting this 1320 serial number may be the oldest example of ANY AK MEMBER. This is a very rare piece.
