It is nice to share the equipment hobby with someone, but if your friends at least love music they probably will appreciate your gear. I started this hobby when i was early twenties as well, about 6 years ago. Since then I've gotten 2 of my buddies collecting records for their newly put together systems. my dad now owns a marantz connected to a pair of KLH 17's (the speakers being a christmas gift from me), and my older brother just asked if he could have my new small advent hand-me-downs. "Build it and they will come" is my point.
And surprisingly, chicks dig it. They like to see that you have hobbies other than video games. I have an ex that STILL wants me to put some gear together for her.
you have things that no one else you know has. it automatically brings intrigue and questions like "can i play a record" when people stop by. i see your point, but its also fun being original.
