Pioneer CS-8B?

Mister Tawny

Crazed afficianado
Well I picked up a really nice system yesterday. A mint Fisher 800-8, Garrard Model A and Teac 808, with a pair of Goodman's Axiom 300's all in a custom teak case assembled in 1963. Anyway my question is for his extension speakers he had a pair of Pioneer CS-8B, and look as hard as I can I can't find reference to them. I did look over the Pioneer list and they weren't there. So anyone with any info on them would be highly appreciated. BTW they sound great with the Fisher.

Neither can I find anything on them. Are you sure you didn't mistake the b for an 8. Could they be Pioneer cs88's?

I am familiar with CS-88's they are the large lattice speakers, these are MUCH smaller. Prolly from the early 60's and part of the larger system bought when he was in Japan.

They are 16 ohm, so that takes them out of the ordinary. I had some 16 ohm Sansui's that were brought over from Japan, circa 1960's. Yours are most likely a product made for the Japanese market, hence the lack of data.

Where's the link to all the Asian market speakers we've never seen, again, please.

It's most illuminating.

What we got was "Export ware...."

Does it have a perforated stainless steel front grille? I had some 16ohm CS-51 whose rear looked just like what you posted. They were sold to servicemen along with the SX-790 (black faced version of the SX-780) Date from 1970.

Nope just a tweed grill and a gloss teak finish.

Do they have removable rear panels? If so, could you remove one so we can see inside?

I have a hunch that they are quite like many of the mid 60's Japenese speaker systems but it would be nice to check them out a little more detailed.

I love a good mystery speaker thread

perhaps the speaker grilles are held on with velcro ? I had some CS88a's with velcro-attached grilles . . .

curious to see the opther scores too ! :thmbsp:

I wish I could open them, the box is sealed, not screwed together. I am curious to play with them more. Part of the system also had a pair of Goodman's Axiom 300's. The whole thing consisted of a Fisher 800-B, Garrard Model A and a Teac 88 tube reel to reel. All were bought in 1963 by a retiring air force general, who then went to Hong Kong and built custom Teak cabinets for the whole thing. The Pioneers were bought as an after thought for a 2nd room.

Right now I have put up the Axioms at Ebay, and getting ready to reload the speaker cabs with Altec drivers. Full range was never really my thing. I am also getting ready to do the upgrades on the Fisher and put the original tubes away. They all are in excellent shape. I thought I would add pics of the whole thing. BTW the pioneer is sitting on my BIC Venturi Series 6 Spec II's. Some of the best 70's speakers I have owned.
