Pioneer CS-99 3" tweeter refoam?

NealinNevada

THE Bozak Museum of NV
Hi to all!

I need to refoam the 3" tweeters on a set of Pioneer CS-99 speakers, but I can't seem to locate foam surrounds for them . I find 3.25" surrounds, but not 3". Does anyone know where the 3" foam surrounds can be purchased? Thanks folks!

I've never seen refoam kits nor surrounds for the tweeters in the 99's, 77A's or 88A's. There is, however, a seller on ebay that offers a refoam service for that tweeter. The seller is hifinut1. I have no personal experience with him, but it would appear to be a plausible (if spendy) option.

EDIT: It would appear that speakerworks.com carries 3" kits. Whether or not they would work for your application is unknown. As I recall, those tweeter surrounds have a very narrow roll.

Thanks for the link to speakerworks.com Dave...I looked earlier there and didn't see the 3" surrounds (getting blind in my old age :smoke:). I think they will work, all the dimensions are correct.

Aren't the foam surrounds totally flat circles? If so, you could buy a small sheet of foam (what foam that is, you would have to experiment) and cut a 3" circle ring out of it.
I think I have seen some people replace it with felt.

Did you end up buying the kit from speakerworks? I just opened my new to me 43 year old CS-99's and the tweeter foam disintegrated upon cleaning it. I'd like to refoam myself if possible. Thanks!

These are supposed to be correct...

I believe these became available after I did mine, with 3.125" surrounds. Only issue I ran into was not being able to re-attach the gasket due to the larger "roll". Didn't hurt performance any. Need to re-cap the networks next.
