Pioneer CS-R300

Jnevill

Super Tweeter
I just picked up a really nice pair of these little guys today, they seem to have very nice (walnut?) real wood veneer, and immaculate (but fugly) two tone cloth grills, orange and black. Nice if you are a Giants fan, but...

They are really clean, well built little speakers, 2 ways, I bought them with the intention of making them into HPM700's, minus the supertweeter, all I would need to do is drill one more hole for the midrange, but after picking them up I think the cabinets are too small.

Any opinions? Should I mod them, or leave them be? They sound ok, for their age, and for being 40w 2 ways, but nothing special other than being well preserved classics.

I only have $40 into them, thoughts?

Fugly!!?? It's that awesome 70's two tone grill that I like about these series. I personally wouldn't do a three way, you'd have to design an all new crossover. What about replacing the tweeter and turn them into some econowaves? The crossover work has already been done for you.

I have the CS R100 and while I haven't given them a listen yet I think a mini wave may be in their future. If I can ever figure out how to remove the grill that is.
