Pioneer PL 7 stuck cycling between the platter and the arm rest

I just picked up this Pioneer table cheap at auction and it's clean and sports a new-looking Stanton 680EE. I saw several posts about this issue of the arm cycling between the platter and the rest, without ever stopping. Saw Beej respond a couple of years ago that he could provide a copy of the service manual on how to disassemble and address this issue on the PL 7. Does anyone have a copy of that service manual that could be emailed. It would be much appreciated. I'm new to the forum and not sure how to reach individual members. I have also reached out to Beej on email. Thanks!

@beej has been AWOL for over a month now. :(

Shoot me a DM with your email, I have a copy of the guide.

As far as the autoreturn loop issue, it's most likely that the two little metal plates on the main cam gear on the spindle have gummed up. What I did was clean them thoroughly with degreaser, cleanse with a bit of dilute alcohol, then place a bit of zoom turbine oil on those two metal parts. I used Super Lube synthetic grease on the rest of the mechanism.

Nate has it covered. My PL-7 had the same problem and the cleaning fix worked. I used Wahl clipper oil.

I mention bending the arm piece in my photo because I did so trying to remove the cam without disassembling the rest of that assembly. I had to reopen the table to fix it because it would fail to auto-cycle intermittently. Turns out it was riding *just* at the edge of the mating surface on the metal plates on the cam so would occasionally slip off the top edge. I adjusted the position (by slight tweaking) on both of my tables to maximize reliable contact.

Apologies, Nate. I responded this morning. And I also responded to JJ as well. Been tied up with other non-audio issues. Sorry guys.

Thanks much for the docs and guidance Nate, Hajidub, KeninDC and Beej. The instructions were great and Beej answered some questions for me today while I worked on it. I have the TT back in business, functioning smoothly, as designed!

Beej, you're a lifesaver! I've been fooling with a PL-200 with the continuous loop problem. I read one of your posts about cleaning the metal parts on the main cog. Several sprays of contact cleaner and the turntable is performing nicely. Listening to Steely Dan right now. Thanks a bunch!
