Pioneer SA-1000

Hello everyone. I recently picked up a Pioneer SA-1000 integrated--except for the cap missing from the power/speaker selector knob, it's in great shape. Compared to my SA-9100, which I believe replaced the SA-1000, this amp is more tube-like--bass is a bit loose, high's slightly rolled off, but very nice sounding, with an excellent midrange. Anyone have more info/experience with this beauty? It's very well built, although I think the 9100 improved on it. Thanks

You might do better by asking the mods to move this to the Pioneer forum.

Aside from that, it's a nice catch. I've been tempted to get one of those early Pioneer units simply because they come from the period of rock music I like the best.:D

I have the Amp and Tuner completely dead in the attic. I picked them up with grilless JBL L100's for $13 a couple years ago.

Enthusiast2, would you be interested in selling your dead 1000's? Really would like a matching knob set for mine.

Thanks

have you checked ebay? type in your model number, a lot of amps and receivers get parted out on there. might find the knob that youre looking for.

The Pioneer SA-1000 is a great integrated amplifier. But synergies between components is important. One item that improves its sound quality is the speaker wire. I use vintage Tara Labs Space and Time Phase II speaker wires (about 30 years old). Also, I use Aural Symphonics As-One interconnects between my Pioneer and SACD/CD player (a truly obvious improvement). Speakers are crucial, as well. I used to have Pioneer HPM-100 speakers hooked up to the SA-1000 and it sounded wonderful. I currently have the RSL CG-6 speakers connected to the SA-1000 (although the bass does not go as low on the RSLs, the sonics are clear, detailed and pleasureable).

I know this reply is about 7 years late, but I would recommend that you replace the FUSES in your Pioneer components. Dead fuses are a common culprit, and fuses are cheap to purchase. Good luck...

Recently added a Harman-Kardon powered subwoofer to my Pioneer SA-1000 & RSL CG-6 setup. The HK subwoofer's contribution to lower frequencies is very satisfying. Connected the powered subwoofer via the Pioneer's rear "Center Channel" RCA output. (Of course, I would not need the subwoofer if my Pioneer HPM-100s were in this SA-1000 setup.)

FYI...For those interested in specific models, said powered subwoofer is the Harman-Kardon AVS10 (part of a satellite system). A couple are currently available on Eb*y.
