Found this nice set of headphones with box & extension cord along with paperwork. They sound pretty nice to boot . Couldn’t pass it up for $20.

Replying to an extremely old thread to say,
I just rescued one from a thrift store today for $6.99. Just the headphones, no box or accessories. I wonder how much this cost brand new.

Slight echo/resonance in upper mid frequencies, and also muddy in that range. Otherwise it sounds great.

It is such an odd construction but it looks like it was aiming for high quality open back headphones. Very thick plastic headband is still stiff and provides firm response even in 2025. metal/pastic hinge points are solid and look like they will last another 50 years easily. Oddly, the cups are 100% aluminum, and the ear pads are HARD rubber. To achieve open back design, Pioneer simply drilled 4 small holes into the aluminum. The headband wrap is real leather with YKK zippers for easy removal but had very cheap foam as padding inside the wrap. The 50 year old headband foam had completely disintegrated into fine powder, so that was a fun surprise when I opened it up.

Overall, it is very nice. Whenever I need the 70's (late 60's?) experience I wouldn't hesitate to fire this up.

One real negative : the aluminum cups have an odd echo effect of amplifying outside noises on some frequencies. I wonder how these would perform modded into semi-closed back instead of open back.
