Hey everyone. I'm new to the world of audio equipment, so I was hoping that I would be able to find some advice here. A few years ago, before I knew anything about anything, I purchased a Technics SA-400 Stereo Receiver that didn't work for a reason I couldn't understand. A few months ago, a friend of mine took a look at it and informed me that I needed new fuses, and showed me how to hook up speakers to it. Since then, I've been using it for just about everything. I've bought a headphones jack to RCA cable converter so that I could use my itunes through it, and I've been listening to CDs mainly through the DVD player I have hooked up to it. Since I'm no expert I can't say the exact quality of it, but it sounds great and cosmetically looks great minus some chipped paint and a few paint stains on the top.
Anyway, for the last couple of months I've been searching for a turntable to hook into the stereo receiver. I've been thinking of ebay and checking every goodwill and yardsale I've had access to, but up until recently I've had no luck. That is, until I happened into a record store that I'd heard about a few times that's in the downtown of my city. The store doesn't normally sell turntables, but the owner is selling a Pioneer SL-530 that his son no longer uses due to getting a nicer, newer model. The SL-530 is in great cosmetic condition minus a few chips in the wood exterior and a scratch or two on the dust cover. The owner says that it works fine and the only reason they're selling it is because his son just got a better model, but I'm going to test it out when I go to get it. He's selling it for $75.00. If it works as well as he says that it did, do you guys think that its worth it? Do you think it will work well with my Technics SA-400? I think cosmetically they look like they were a marriage arranged in heaven, but I wanted to check in here first. I'm planning on going there this afternoon and test it out/potentially buy it, so any input before then would be very appreciated. Thank you! ^_^
