Pioneer SX-750 Power Switch work around

I have a Pioneer SX-750 that the "unobtanium" power switch was beyond repair. So I decided since I never used the headphone jack, I removed it, and installed a push on/push release switch in its place. Could have used the microphone jack position as well, but it would have required extra cabling and fitting. This particular SX -750 has real wood veneer, so it is rather unique with the wood and custom power switch. You know what it looks excellent! Even the paint graphic works nicely and tying in off the ends on big orange - nice.
What is the proper name for that grey piece that is connecting the switch to the cap?

Thanks for the kind words, Dave. Not sure what you call the connector. See them quite often in old equipment, something I dug out of my spare parts. Maybe another AKer
will chime in with the correct terminology.

Where did you find that pushbutton switch?

I have a 750 waiting for new veneer and a power switch. I have the veneer in hand already.

I've gone through the all of the time and trouble getting to the old switch on a few.
Luckily it fix the problem on mine, not like IIRC this unit you have now.

Is it common for the switches on these old Pioneers to conk out? I have an SX-636 and an audio repair guy advised that I plug the unit into a surge protector and turn it on and off using the surge protector switch rather than the pushbutton on/off switch on the Pioneer. Is that a good recommendation?

A lot of the 750's and below have the power switch on the back of the speaker select switch, and they seem to go out much more often than the ones that use lever switches. And of course that switch is difficult (in some cases impossible) to repair, and no longer available new, so some kind of work around is usually necessary.

Hi there thats a great looking mod, can you please detail a bit more about the power switch especially where to get one? I know you said there are loads on ebay, could you link me to one, or PM me a link please? Thanks

Ordered a couple myself. The vendor I used had multiple color choices for the LED lighted ring around the button. I picked yellow to go with the rest of the lighting scheme.

The power sw. failed on my Toshiba SA-750. It's also part of the speaker select sw. I knew I'd never find a replacement part so I traced the wiring and installed a simple toggle switch on the back of the amp to turn the AC power on. Works great and the amp still has its original beautiful appearance.

That's very nice work. I have a Pioneer Sx-750 and I don't like the power switch that used as the same switch as the speaker switch. I think there might be enough room on top of the headphone port to fill in a power switch, I might try it later to see if I could add a power switch and keep the headphone port. By the way, how did you print the "Power" sign on the plate?

That looks like a double mechanical splice connector to me.
